like a salt barn near the marshes in Guérande
Guérande, famous for its marshes and its salt, is also a medieval town where art and history go hand in hand.
This property, 15 minutes from the legendary seaside resort of La-Baule with its TGV train links to Paris, is 2 km from the ramparts as well as the shops and 5 km from La-Turballe beaches. These distances take 5 and 10 minutes by bike.
One of the independent sections houses a large workshop, the other a bedroom with a shower room.
The main house
The wooden-framed walls are clad with sheet steel or strips of wood, the slightly sloping roofs are covered with zinc, and wide, aluminium-framed picture windows let copious amounts of light into all the rooms.
Three rectangular buildings are laid out in a U-shape, delimiting an open space, closed by a passageway. The first comprises a very large living room and a kitchen, the second, a bedroom and its bathroom and, finally, the third, a corridor providing access to a bedroom, a bathroom, a linen room and a small lounge. The latter is linked to the large lounge via a glazed passageway. The patio can be reached from all three buildings.
There are several entrances which open either into the vast living room or into the passageway providing access to the small lounge. The main rooms, two bedrooms and two bathrooms are all on a level. A mezzanine can be reached from the large lounge via a steel stairway. Whilst two adjoining sleeping areas can be reached via a second stairway going up from the small lounge.
The proportions of the central room of this house make it really impressive: the ceiling is more than 5 m high in the lounge section. The kitchen area is laid out under the mezzanine.
This building is linked to the main house via a pathway, laid with wood, running alongside the swimming pool. The ground floor is given over to technical activities: a large workshop and a storeroom. A narrow flight of wooden steps leads to a bedroom and a bathroom.
The guest room
With a wooden framework covered with sheets of steel, this section comprises a bedroom with a shower room and toilet. A French window opens on to a little terrace.
The swimming pool
This heated, 4x8 m swimming pool is surrounded by a deck, covered with strips of wood.
Light floods in on all sides. The size of the very spacious living room and the patio, well protected from the wind, achieves the feat of transmitting feelings of privacy as well as liberty throughout this house. The heated swimming pool and the various areas make it easy to imagine get-togethers with family and friends. The nearby beaches, the unique marshlands with their omnipresent wild life and the medieval Guérande will give all the residents an idea for an activity or simply amaze them.
