Location
In the Loire Valley, this little property is 220 km from Paris via the A10 motorway. Slip roads for the motorway are 12 minutes away. Tours TGV train station has 50-minute links to the French capital and its airport provides 80-minute flights to London. The village, with local shops, amenities and a school, is 2 km away.
Description
Neighbouring an old 17th century mill, this property stands between the millrace and a secondary road. The latter, little used, follows the stream, along which are scattered several houses. One slope of the valley is covered with woods, the other by fields alternating with meadows. The rectangular plot of land is bordered by hedges on all sides. A site is reserved for parking cars at the entrance to the property. The vegetation provides a glimpse of the house which is on the northern edge of the property. The sunniest side opens on to a terrace and a swimming pool area.
The house
An old extension of the mill, this house is composed of three buildings constructed in the 19th century. The first adjoins the mill which spans the millrace. The other two are aligned and set at right angles. The rendered, quarry stone block walls are covered with Virginia creeper during the summer months. The gable roofs, covered with slate or small tiles, were recently repaired or renovated. An extension was added to the south gable wall of the last building. It is bordered by a terrasse. The swimming pool area is nearby. The house is surrounded by lawns, with tall trees and shrubs.
The inside, although redesigned, still has several preserved features from the 1950’s, such as the doors and the fireplace in the lounge. The floors are covered with oak wood parquet flooring, cement tiles or old terracotta tiles. The windows are double-glazed. The lounge is laid out in the centre of the house. The three bedrooms are ingeniously organised so that there is no loss of privacy. The very spacious, fitted kitchen forms a very pleasant living room. It partially overlooks the terrace and is adjoined by a laundry room and a storage area.
Our opinion
In this attractive, verdant, open valley, it is not unusual to see several roe deer grazing or gambolling through the morning mist or at sunset. This nuisance-free haven is quiet and the neighbours are discreet and reassuring. The house is laid out all on one level and is, therefore, very easy to move around. Bright, it is filled with light from early morning to dusk. Most of the major works, involving the roofs and the sanitation system, were recently carried out. New owners therefore have the pleasure of changing the decoration and adding any necessary finishing touches.
