A large house in a verdant setting, with a swimming pool,
on a plot that includes some building land on the outskirts of Paris
Orgeval, YVELINES ile-de-france 78630 FR

Location

In the Yvelines department, set between wooded hillsides and green valleys, the small town of Orgeval dominates the plain and the Seine. The village, where Jeanne d’Arc is said to have stopped before delivering Poissy from the hands of the English, has remained almost the same for a thousand years between its Romanesque church and the surrounding national forests of Marly and Alluets-le-Roi. Orgeval is 30 km from the capital's ring road and is quickly accessed via the A13 and A14 motorways. Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Versailles are only a few minutes away by car, while the Poissy RER station (line A), 6 km away, allows you to reach La Défense in only 20 minutes.

Description

On the edge of the village, placed on the heights of the 6,000 m² plot, the house sits a few metres from the stone wall that creates a separation to the north of the property. The building itself dates from two periods: the older stone part dates from the early 19th century, while the extension was added in the 1980s. Facing south, the villa of approx. 400 m² of living space is preceded by a long stone terrace and faces the garden, which slopes gently to the south side. It comprises five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Below, the 13 x 5 metre pool.

The villa

With a surface area of approximately 400 m², the villa is on two levels with a basement. On the ground floor, two entrance doors lead to the area where two large bedrooms, the lounge with cathedral ceiling under its imposing roof structure, the dining room and the study follow one another. The large hallway leads to the spacious kitchen and dining area, which is adjacent to the laundry room, the access to the basement and the open loggia. In the sitting room, the dining room and the study, large French windows let the light pour in. They open onto the terrace and extend an invitation to contemplate the large garden, its groups of trees and flower beds. The first floor consists of two wings on either side of the lounge with cathedral ceiling, which are accessed by two separate wooden quarter turn staircases. On one side, it features a large mezzanine overlooking the living room. The latter precedes a bedroom with a view of the garden and its own bathroom. On the opposite side, two additional large bedrooms - with en-suite bathrooms and toilets - offer space for a drawing room, games room or office. The basement, where the boiler room is located, provides ample space for storing garden equipment or creating a cellar or even a cinema room.

Garden
Slightly sloping and zoned for building, the garden covers more than 5000 m² of land. A lawn extends over most of the garden, punctuated by a few groups of trees and copses, with a small woodland on the western side. Bushy hedges mark the borders with neighbouring properties. The terrace runs alongside the house on several levels. The judiciously placed swimming pool sits at one end of the house, out of view from the reception rooms. The colours of the mosaic on the floor and walls contrast with the flowerbeds planted all around.

Our opinion

Less than an hour from Paris, in a small, centuries-old village, the property offers a touch of the provincial French countryside, all dotted with greenery and calm. With its swimming pool and multicoloured groves, the garden will certainly seduce quite a number of visitors. Both the interior and exterior have been maintained with the same spirit: a comforting contemporary rusticity. But there are a thousand possibilities for those who wish to transform and upgrade the vast country house. The light and airy layout provides breathing space for all its occupants, who can easily define their own personal space. The property could be used as a family home or as a second home where all generations gather during the holidays.
