Location
Halfway between the Square Émile-Chautemps, the first French-style garden in the capital designed by Jean-Charles Alphand in 1863, and the Square du Temple, the Haut-Marais is defined as the French epicentre of art, fashion and gastronomy. The nearby Porte Saint-Martin with its theatres, concert halls and the village-like Rue du Château-d'Eau also offers an attractive living environment. Created in 1696 on the site of the inner rampart of the city wall built under Charles V, after the levelling of the Butte Saint-Martin, the Rue Meslay (formerly Rue du Rempart) contrasts in its tranquillity with the commercial and creative effervescence of the district.
Description
With a surface area of 84 m² and a ceiling height of 3.20 metres, the full-width flat with a parquet floor offers a triple exposure. Behind the glass front door, the hallway leads immediately to the first bedroom and then on to the living room. Both feature large windows, revealing the foliage of the street and the silhouettes of the "Bantu" warriors painted by the street artist Kouka, which adorn the facade of a 1970s building originally designed by Jean-Jacques Fernier and André Biro.
From the living room - with its ceiling rose, its mouldings alternating floral motifs and modillions and its fireplace topped by a mirror - a wide corridor leads to a series of well-lit rooms overlooking the courtyard: a second bedroom with a transom and ceiling rose, a shower room, a bathroom, separate toilets, as well as a kitchen with a fireplace mantle and a period tiled floor.
Our opinion
Between the discreet charm of the courtyard, bathed in sunlight at its zenith, and the striking view of the former artistic meeting point Albat'art Château, the property exudes an elegant and singular atmosphere. A haven of tranquillity almost nestled in the trees, it offers an intimate character, coupled with a beautiful luminosity and interesting volumes. The size of the property and the possibility of acquiring a service room on the fourth floor, with a small kitchen and shower room, make it an address full of potential, as much for a professional as for a modern-day nomad or a family. With its privileged location, straddling two constantly bustling districts, popular with artists and foodies, it will satisfy the appetites of the most demanding city dwellers.
