Location
Jouy-en-Josas, a town in the verdant Bièvre Valley, is a pleasant place to live. With its thousand-year-old history, the town still exudes a character typical of the Ile-de-France region between woods, ponds, grasslands and undulating hills. The town was a pretty, sleepy village up until the 18th century when Christophe-Philippe-Oberkampf established the famous factory making “Toile de Jouy” wallpaper. From this moment on, Jouy-en-Josas took on a new lease of life: the arts and crafts industry developed and the middle classes and the aristocracy had magnificent holiday homes built there. Since the end of the Second World War, numerous prestigious research and educational centres, such as those of HEC, INRA and Thales, have taken up residence in this town, just 4 km from Versailles and 19 km from Paris. The French capital can be reached via the N118 or the RER train line C in 45 minutes.
Description
The Montjouy estate
This estate standing in the town centre is secure. Laid out in enclosed parklands on the edge of the forest, it includes a swimming pool and numerous green open spaces. Its construction, comprising seven blocks of flats, dates from 1965.
A flat with an air of a chalet
This 73 m² flat, on the second floor, reached via a lift, is extended by a closed loggia, spanning almost 10 m². With its resolutely Scandinavian style resembling a forest chalet, it is superbly laid out. Every room has parquet flooring and large picture windows, providing unobstructed views over its nuisance-free, natural surroundings. An entrance hall gives access to a semi-open-plan kitchen and its pantry, as well as to a double, west-facing living room. Under a partially panelled ceiling with inset lighting, this large reception area is divided into a dining room and a lounge, the walls of which are completely made of glass. The loggia, forming an extension of this room, makes it possible to take advantage of the sun, even during the winter months.
The night-time area comprises two bedrooms, respectively spanning 11 and 12 m². Both have a wide window providing a clear view of the woods. This flat also includes a dressing room spanning almost 4 m². The bathroom is fully tiled. A basement cellar and a car parking space complete this property.
Our opinion
For those who dream of living in the country without moving away from the town, Jouy-en-Josas forms the perfect link. Barely 45 minutes from the French capital, with half of its territory taken up by Versailles national forest, the village promises a peaceful way of life, enhanced with walking or cycling outings in the forest. With its many glazed walls, this flat acts as a showcase for its pastoral setting, forming a sort of anteroom to the natural surroundings. Residents have the impression that they can touch the tree branches by just stretching out their arms. Peace and quiet take pride of place, whilst the light can but enhance the spacious areas and the warm parquet floors, the boundaries between the inside and the outside being somewhat blurred.
