Location

On the outskirts of a village in the Upper Anjou region (local shops) and 10 km from a town with all shops, amenities and administrative services. Some 45 minutes from Angers and its TGV train station with links to Paris taking less than 1½ hours and an hour from Nantes and its international airport. A little more than 30 minutes from the banks of the river Loire.

Description

A village street goes to the entrance gates, adjoining a pavilion. A long driveway then leads to the chateau and its outbuildings. A wide terrace in front of the chateau features an ornamental pool. A courtyard, laid out on the south side behind the chateau, opens on to the parklands and is delimited on one side by outbuildings.

The chateau

The architecture of this chateau, with its facades reflecting a refined decor and its steep roofs rising skywards, exudes an unusual lustre. A lustre that is further enhanced by the whiteness of the freestone. A similar clarity of lines also prevails inside. This chateau bears witness to an assured, triumphant 19th century, where anything could be envisaged including giving free rein to the redesigning of older styles. It also bears witness to the principles respected by the ambitious restoration works undertaken by its current owners. Furthermore, this spacious, comfortable property, in the centre of a large populated area composed of the nearby towns of Angers, Rennes and Nantes, can now meet all the expectations linked to a private home as well as those linked to the setting up of a commercial activity. The construction of the chateau predominantly dates from the 19th century. It therefore reflects a neo-Renaissance style. Partially built from freestone and partially from quarry stone blocks, it comprises a main building with two wings set at right angles. The east wing, spanning three levels, corresponds to a section of the old chateau, whilst the west wing is a chapel. The main building spans four levels, including a garden level and an attic floor. It comprises a central section, flanked by two pavilions, including one extended by a gallery, connecting it to a third pavilion. Each of these sections is topped with a hip slate roof, featuring roof dormers. The north corners of the first two pavilions are adorned with watch-turrets, also topped with hip, slate roofs. A corner tower in the third pavilion. The north and west facades are enhanced with sober moulding. A stone porch on the north facade has a dual flight stairway, providing access to a terrace leading to the main entrance.


Garden level
A vaulted corridor, partially composed of freestone, leads to a set of rooms and cellars. Some of these rooms house machinery such as the boiler. This level is reached via two interior stairways.
Ground floor
The vestibule in the central building provides access, on one side, to the main lounge and, on the other, to the main dining room. Adjoining the main lounge are a library and the chapel. Adjoining the main dining room are a kitchen and a gallery which leads to three rooms, including one with a shower room and a toilet, and to two back stairways. Most of these rooms have parquet flooring laid in a herringbone pattern. The reception rooms feature coffered ceilings, wainscoting and carved wooden fireplaces, whilst the fireplace in the main dining room has outstanding acanthus leaf decor, topped with a broken, curved pediment. The other rooms have marble fireplaces. The contemporary kitchen is fitted with a central unit as well as marble worksurfaces and splashbacks. The main wooden stairway housed in the vestibule has four flights of stairs with three intermediate landings as well as an outstanding carved handrail. The east wing comprises three adjoining rooms, a toilet and a back entrance.
First floor
The landing room provides access, on one side, to a flat and, on the other, to a corridor, leading to two bedrooms, each with a bathroom and toilet, a laundry room and a back stairway. The flat is composed of a bedroom, a lounge, two dressing rooms, a bathroom with a toilet, and a shower room with a toilet. Floors are covered with parquet flooring, laid in herringbone or strip patterns. Most of the rooms have fireplaces and wainscoting. Two of the bedrooms give access to the watch-turrets and have a balcony. In the third pavilion, reached solely by a back stairway, are a bedroom and a shower room with a toilet. The east wing comprises a corridor leading to six bedrooms, with a toilet (awaiting restoration).
Second floor
This level under the rafters is taken up by attics partially used but for the heating system.

The outbuildings

The outbuildings, standing at right angles, are constructed from shale and topped with slate roofs. Brick has been used for the framing around the openings and the quoins. These outbuildings are used as a garage, a barn and five flats, all including a kitchen and a shower room with a toilet.

The parklands

These parklands, spanning a little more than ten hectares, are predominantly set out on the south side of the chateau. They comprise areas laid to lawn that surround wooded sections as well as an old vegetable garden. A round pond, in the centre of the walled vegetable garden, is currently surrounded by four squares laid to lawn. In front of the chateau, the centre of a long terrace laid to lawn features a large rectangular ornamental pool.
