On the edge of the chateau parklands, facing undulating, wooded countryside. 5 minutes from a historic town, with a wealth of heritage, shops and amenities. Some 30 minutes from the towns of Saumur and Angers and their TGV train stations linking them to Paris. Also less than 30 minutes from the banks of the river Loire and their delightful villages. 20 minutes from slip roads for the A11 motorway and 5 minutes from those for the A85 motorway.


A sunken lane, off of a little country road, runs alongside a field and the chateau parklands, on one side, and this property’s meadow, followed by its orchard and garden, on the other. Said lane leads to entrance gates and a pedestrian gate that open on to the main facade of the house. The lane is then extended by a driveway, going towards the stables at the back. A wide terrace, bordered by a low wall, runs alongside the house. The wing of outbuildings is set at right angles on one side. On the other, a swimming pool adjoins a summer kitchen-dining room. The garden is completely enclosed by walls.

The house

This house, constructed from lime-rendered, quarry stone blocks, is composed of a central pavilion, spanning three levels, with a two-storey wing on either side, one of which is extended by a two-storey pavilion. The roofs are covered with slate throughout, but the pavilions have hip roofs and the wings gable roofs. Freestone was used for the protruding quoins, the cornices on the pavilions, one of which features modillions, and the surrounds framing the openings. A wide, arched window on the ground floor of the main pavilion is topped with a roof dormer.

Ground floor
The terrace laid out in front of the house communicates directly with a dining room, a large lounge, a hunting room and a kitchen. A back entrance at the rear of the house provides access to the dining room and a hall area which leads to the kitchen, a linen room, a shower room and a toilet. A stairway leads to the cellars. The dining room, opening, on one side, into a little lounge and, on the other, into the large lounge, precedes a study and the hunting room. Terracotta floor tiles are to be found in the entrance hall, the kitchen and the dining room. All the other rooms have parquet flooring. Most of the rooms feature exposed stone walls and exposed ceiling beams. Fireplaces enhance the dining room and the large lounge, where a wooden stairway goes upstairs. The basement houses three cellars, one of which is a boiler room.
First floor
The landing provides access to a bedroom and a wide hall area. This leads to a wooden stairway, a shower room, with a toilet, two bedrooms, including one with a bathroom, a toilet, a dressing room and an attic that could be converted. The dressing room communicates with a second attic that could also be converted. The ceiling beams have been left exposed.
Second floor
A vast bedroom, with a shower room and toilet, has been laid out under the rafters. This level also includes large attics.

The outbuildings

The stables, behind the house, adjoin one of the walls of the hunting room. At the front and on one side are a shed, housing garden tools, a kennel and a covered area, with freestone pillars. The covered area is extended by an old ornamental pool.
All these buildings have slate roofs.

The garden

The garden extends beyond the terrace in front of the house. Completely enclosed by walls, it includes a well. A swimming pool and a summer kitchen-dining room, with its arbour, are set on one side. A garden gate opens into an orchard, planted with a variety of fruit trees, followed by a fenced meadow, where the owners’ horses graze.

Our opinion

Set in a part of the Anjou region which still has all of the characteristics of a truly rural area, this house has been designed to accommodate and host large numbers. It has vast living areas, looking predominantly out over the surrounding landscape, a sheltered, peaceful garden, where a terrace and a swimming pool extend an invitation to relax, as well as equestrian facilities for those who prefer to remain active. The beautiful oak forests in the local area are ideal for taking walks. Nearby, the banks of the river Loire and their delightful villages are linked via the well-known “La Loire à Vélo” cycle path.
