A 19th century farm building transformed into an elegant family property,
with a swimming pool, near to Rambouillet
Rambouillet, YVELINES ile-de-france 78120 FR

Where the borders of the French departments of Yvelines and Eure-et-Loir meet, the landscape stands out not only because of the proximity of one of the biggest forest tracts in the Ile-de-France region, but also because of the view over the vast cereal plains. Rambouillet train station, 8 km away, provides links to Paris in just under 30 minutes.

This property, standing in a hamlet, is composed of two adjoining barns, resulting from the division of an old farm building constructed in the 19th century. The buildings’ stone walls and their flat-tile-covered roofs were restored in 2000. A first barn has been transformed into an elegant family home, spanning approx. 225 m². The second, with a ground surface area of approx. 155 m², awaits conversion. A swimming pool and a small stone building, in use as a garage, have been constructed and a walled garden, spanning a surface area of approx. 1,476 m², landscaped.

The house

This meticulously restored house, laid out over two levels, is a subtle combination of old features and contemporary decoration. The wrought railings protecting the roof dormer and the stone surrounds framing the openings enhance the main facade of this former barn.

Ground floor
The garden level is set out around a large room, comprising a lounge area, with a stone fireplace and a living room area. An east-facing kitchen, adjoining this lounge-living room, opens on to the garden and its swimming pool. At the other end, following on from the lounge area, a vestibule provides access to a bedroom, currently laid out as a study, with its adjoining shower room. The various open-plan areas on the ground floor all have direct access to the south-facing terrace and garden. The floors are covered with old terracotta tiles.
First floor
The roofing framework is exposed and the floor covered with parquet flooring throughout. Three bedrooms, a dressing room, a bathroom and a toilet. The rooms are all bright and spacious, with views over the surrounding countryside.

The barn

This barn spans a ground surface area of approx. 155 m². Although its walls and its roof have been restored, it still awaits a new vocation.

Our opinion

The old 19th century farm buildings have bestowed their charm and their character on this welcoming family home: a terrace, a swimming pool and a south-facing garden are a promise of pleasant moments spent with family and friends. The quiet setting, just 7 km from Rambouillet, makes this refined property a sought-after place to live. The spacious second barn comprises an additional asset exuding great potential as regards future conversion possibilities.
