25 km to the east of Clermont-Ferrand and 10 km from Thiers, on the edge of a private lake. Near to the A72 Bordeaux-Lyon motorway; 10 minutes from Clermont-Aulnat airport. Clermont-Ferrand SNCF train station is 30 minutes away. All shops and amenities are 5 km away.

Description

On the outskirts of a little village, on an enclosed plot of land, isolated by trees and hedges, on the edge of a protected, green belt area which cannot be built on. A shady driveway goes around a lake, spanning approx. 4,000 m², and goes right up to a waterside home.
The wings of this U-shaped house enclose a terrace, overlooking the lake. The central section of the house dominates a rear courtyard, leading all on a level to garages and the basement.

The villa

This villa spans two levels: a ground floor (approx. 190 m²) and a basement (approx. 80 m²).


Ground floor
This level is given over to living space. A first bedroom has been laid out in a library, enhanced with a stone fireplace in good working order. It adjoins a bathroom and a second bedroom. A bright, functional fitted kitchen features a wide serving hatch opening into a large living room which also includes an eating area. This room, forming the very heart of the house, spans more than 50 m², with a conservatory and a goldfish pond. Copious amounts of light flood in not only through the skylights, but also through the large picture windows that overlook the terrace and the lake. The floor is laid with large, pointed, paving stones. A third bedroom, slightly bigger than the other two (approx. 20 m²), has its own bathroom and opens via a sliding, glazed door on to a waterside terrace. An indoor stairway goes down from the large, central room to the basement which can also be reached from the outside via an independent door, just like that of the garage.
Basement
In addition to space for two cars, this basement includes a workshop area, a storeroom-wine cellar, a laundry-shower room and a large room which could be turned into a fourth bedroom.
The parklands
A 4,000 m² lake is set in the midst of this 14,000 m² property.

Our opinion

The tranquillity of the lake provides this property with great serenity. The villa is like the human extension of this peace and quiet, its large picture windows blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outside. The originality of the site, together with the quality of the layout of the rooms and the choice of materials make this house a place to live that is both restful and stimulating for reflection and creation. It is not therefore surprising that renowned painters such as Rolf-Durig and Jacques-Delahaye stayed and worked here in the 1970’s, finding a real source of creative inspiration on these premises.
