Location
Fontenay-sous-Bois, to the east of Paris, owes its name to the many springs that once crossed its land. For centuries, these springs fed a vast network of fountains and streams. Some were even tapped to supply the moat around Vincennes castle and the watering troughs at Beauté castle, no longer in existence. The town motto “Querno sub tegmine sontes” (Under the branches of an oak tree, fountains), makes reference to this distant past. Nowadays, just a stone’s throw from the French capital, on the regional RER train line and very soon to be on line 1 of the underground, with a large number of schools, Fontenay-sous-Bois attracts families and artists. This house stands on the heights of the town, on the edge of Beaumont Park and its exceptional panoramic view over the whole of Paris.
Description
Currently, at the end of the entrance hall is a toilet, on one side, and a stairway leading to the garden level, on the other. The latter, comprising four bedrooms and two bathrooms, is right on the edge of the lush, countrified garden.
A south-facing, 17 m² kitchen, on the floor above, is enhanced with its exposed ceiling beams. It adjoins a 43 m² lounge, illuminated via large picture windows that let in copious amounts of light. This living room is extended by a small veranda, followed by an unoverlooked, 40 m² terrace, looking down on to the verdant garden.
Our opinion
Near to the town centre and the shops, this unoverlooked property is like a blank canvas. It stands in the immediate vicinity of Beaumont Park, offering a view of the Eiffel Tower to all. Here, in this natural setting, the way of life is in tune with birdsong and the rustling of the trees. An asset that can but be appreciated with the French capital less than five kilometres away. The future owners of these premises could either take on ambitious renovation works or, quite simply, make a fresh start and build a house to their own specifications, with no other limits than those of their imaginations.
