In the Centre-Val-de-Loire region, 2¾ hours from Paris via the A10 motorway, just 15 minutes from the Château-de-Langeais and the banks of the river Loire. This property stands in a once fortified village, with still evocative vestiges, walls flanked by towers and moats carrying streams.
The village has all amenities, schools and local shops.

Description

This property is composed of three buildings laid out in a U-shape around an enclosed, wooded garden. It is accessed via a little stone bridge leading to the porchway of the 16th century outbuilding, currently used for garage and storage purposes. Another outbuilding, now transformed into a house, runs alongside the garden. At the end, the 19th century, large, luxurious home is set at right angles and faces south. It can be directly accessed from another village street. A water-filled moat surrounds one section of the property.

A 19th century, large, luxurious home

Constructed in the late 19th century from quarry stone blocks covered with beige rendering, this house is composed of a main, rectangular building. One end is flanked by a pavilion, the other, by a square tower set at right angles. The main building and the tower are topped with hip roofs, whilst the pavilion has a gable roof, all are covered with slate. The main facade looks out over a square in the centre of the market town. It spans three levels, including the converted attic floor. The entrance door, off to one side, has a sculpted lintel and is topped with a cornice. The windows have dressed stone surrounds and sculpted lintels. The first floor of the facade features three balconies, with wrought iron railings. Three roof dormers enhance the roof. The central one has an arched pediment, whilst those of the other two are triangular.


Ground floor
The vestibule, with its cement floor tiles, is embellished with moulded decoration on the walls and the ceiling. Straight on, a stairway goes up to the first floor and a door opens on to a terrace, followed by the garden. The vestibule provides access, on one side, to a dining room, with a marble fireplace and strip pattern parquet flooring. Moulding decorates the walls and the ceiling. A door opens on to a few steps leading to the small pavilion. The room, with a mezzanine study, provides access, in turn, to the other house. The floor is laid with terracotta tiles and the ceiling features exposed beams. A French window opens on to the garden. On the other side of the vestibule, a lounge is followed, in the tower, by a bedroom with a shower room and toilet. The lounge, with a marble fireplace, is enhanced with panelling on the walls and ceiling. The floor is covered with mosaic tiles. The bedroom is decorated with a marble fireplace and cement floor tiles. Both rooms have access to the terrace.
First floor
The landing provides access, on one side, to a bedroom, with a marble fireplace and herringbone pattern parquet flooring as well as a shower room and toilet. This bedroom is enhanced with a balcony. On the other side are a lounge and a bedroom, both with balconies, whilst a bathroom and toilet are installed in the tower. The floors are laid with herringbone parquet flooring and the fireplaces are made of marble. Moulding embellishes the walls and the ceilings.
Attic
The landing provides access, on one side, to a bedroom, with a shower room and toilet. On the other side are a suite, with a shower room and toilet, and a bedroom. The floors are laid with strip pattern parquet flooring.
House
This 16th century building has been converted into a house. It is constructed from lime-pointed, exposed stone. Its gable roof is covered with flat tiles. All on a level, in the centre of the house, a kitchen, with a wood-burning stove, is illuminated by a French window, opening on to the garden. It leads to a room in use as a laundry room, also featuring a French window leading to the garden, a toilet, a stairway going up to the first floor and an old stable. Furthermore, a vast, bright living room forms a link with the main house. The old attic on the first floor has been converted into three bedrooms, a toilet, a shower room and a vast area with a bedroom, a dressing room, a bathroom and a toilet.
Outbuilding
The 16th century outbuilding, its round tower and its water-filled moat were all part of the town’s fortifications. A little stone bridge, followed by solid, wrought iron gates, provides access to a porchway in the middle of the building facing the garden. On one side, a vast, 60 m² room is used for garage and storage purposes, with an upstairs attic. On the other side, a 35 m² recreation room has a spa installed in the tower.
Garden
This fully enclosed garden abounds in trees and flowers, with flower beds and various species of trees such as lime, apple and other fruit trees. A south-facing terrace laid out in front of the main house and a terrace shaded by the lime trees, out of sight of onlookers, provide areas for relaxing and recreational activities.

Our opinion

A unique property in a village typical of the Touraine region, where traces of the past are still to be seen. When walking around the village, old fortifications, some towers and water-filled moats recount the history of the various places like an open book. A village simply steeped in character and a house that will enable its new owners to live a historic experience. This large, luxurious home appeals courtesy of its original features and its bright rooms. The garden is delightful and private. This somewhat unusual property is just 30 minutes from Tours.
