Although only 8 km away from Paris, the town of Sceaux exudes a provincial atmosphere that is airy and pastoral.
Half of the town is taken up with green open spaces, some of which were designed by André-Le-Nôtre, gardener to Louis XIV.
An RER line B train station is just a 10-minute walk from the house and provides 15-minute links to Paris.
It takes some 13 minutes to reach the Porte-d’Orléans by car.
Whilst the Orlyval line is but 5 minutes away via the RER train line.

The house
This 2-storey house stands at the end of a garden dotted with shrubs and conifers. The numerous openings in its extremely sober facade are a promise of very bright rooms. They are enhanced with duck blue slatted shutters and an impressive set of double entrance doors. A terrace fitted with an awning behind the house is the ideal place to install a wide table for several guests.
Ground floor
Once inside the wide entrance doors, a few steps lead to a large entrance hall, lined with marble. This room is adorned with two carved wooden lions and an elegant tapestry featuring Japanese motifs. A living room is illuminated via numerous south-west facing windows that almost touch one another. They provide a distant view of Sceaux Park, gem of André-Le-Nôtre. The walls in this room are lined with several wooden bookshelf units, all built-in. The lounge also includes a marble fireplace with columns. Facing east, a widely open dining room is decorated with tapestries. These rooms, with warm coloured carpets on their floors, precede a conservatory featuring an atrium roof. A kitchen, facing the dining room, features decoration typical of the 1970’s and a round, central unit. A door in the kitchen provides access to a wide wooden terrace, protected by an awning. At the end of the corridor are two bedrooms and a bathroom. All the openings are fitted with double glazing and remote-controlled shutters.
First floor
The first floor is given over to bedrooms. A landing at the top of the oak wood stairway provides access to the various rooms. Wide and bright, their ceilings are dotted with exposed beams. Some rooms are also illuminated via skylights. The main bathroom of the parental bedroom is of a respectable size and includes an immense curved marble bath. A 20 m², west-facing study, a dormitory, a shower room and a laundry room complete the rest of this level.
Basement
The basement includes a bedroom with a bathroom, ideal for accommodating domestic staff, machine rooms (oil-fired boiler room, laundry room, wine cellar and storage areas) as well as relaxation and leisure areas. A first room has been transformed into a dance hall with a dance floor and a separate bar. The second, with its carpet and its panelling, is a billiard room and, lastly, a sauna. Facing the dance hall, a surprising sleeping car, with berths. The covered car parking area can take three cars.
Our opinion
Ideally located between natural and urban surroundings in a wealthy district of Sceaux.
The town is particularly well-known for its schools and students, notably because of the Lycée-Lakanal and its preparation courses for entrance examinations to renowned educational institutions, which is but a stone’s throw from the property.
This house is outstanding not only because of its large, high-ceilinged rooms but also because of its originality.
The areas are spacious and airy, making it easy to move from one room to another.
The choice of materials, a range of colourful hues and unusual decorative features are all combined to let a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere filter throughout the house.
A journey through time, enhanced by the presence of an immaculately kept, period sleeping car which will delight children and passing friends alike.
