Where the regions of Anjou, Touraine and Poitou meet, in an area where the land, enriched with limestone, favours the growing of vines (Saumur and cabernet) and cereal crops. The countryside, dotted with woods, extends to the banks of the river Loire and the royal abbey of Fontevrault, 25 minutes away. Oiron chateau and its contemporary art collection are 15 minutes away. A market town with all shops and amenities is but 5 minutes away. Châtellerault TGV train station is 45 minutes away and that of Saumur 40 minutes away.


A driveway, bordered by conifers and grassy areas, leads from the property’s perimeter wall to the entrance to the manor house’s main courtyard, delimited by gates and a second stone wall. The initial driveway then turns away from the manor house and continues towards the outbuildings. The main, gravel courtyard is laid out around a central flower bed. The rendering reflecting the 19th century is reinforced with classical contour and profile, notably comprising modillions. The facades feature wide, symmetrically arranged windows.

The manor house

The symmetrical layout of the central building, flanked on either side by a pavilion, is reinforced by the arrangement of the doors and windows. The slate roof contrasts with the white of the rendered walls and the stone quoins.

Ground floor
A through hall houses a wooden stairway and a door opening out on to the parklands. A corridor provides access to a kitchen, followed by an adjoining lounge and dining room, with their marble fireplaces. The ceilings in both these rooms are 4.2 m high and their floors are covered with tiles and parquet flooring. On the other side of the entrance hall, a second corridor leads to a small lounge, a bedroom, with its bathroom and toilet (marble fireplaces enhance both rooms), a linen room and, lastly, a boiler room, with a well. A stairway goes up to the attic space from the boiler room. A toilet has been installed under the stairway in the entrance hall.
First floor
The landing provides access to three bedrooms, including one with a separate toilet and another with its own bathroom, shower and toilet. Marble fireplaces, topped with their decorative trumeaux, symbolise the decor of these two bedrooms. The bedroom ceilings are 3.4 m high. There is parquet flooring throughout, with the exception of the bathroom.

The outbuildings

Tile roofs and exposed stone walls create a harmonious group of outbuildings with miscellaneous vocations. A small, 3-roomed house is an integral part of this group which also includes a barn, a cowshed, granaries and other buildings used for storage purposes. Further away are another 4-roomed house, awaiting restoration, and a contemporary farm shed.

The parklands

The parklands are composed of grassy areas and a small wood. They are crossed by a driveway, leading from the manor house to the property boundary, where an open cellar is to be found.

Our opinion

This property, set where historic, wine-growing and well-known culinary heritages meet, could become the showcase for an art of living that combines the wealth of the Poitou, Anjou and Touraine regions. The diversified surroundings, alternating fields and woods, avert any possible monotony. This property, like its setting, is both open and private, spacious and confidential as regards its architecture and the layout of its parklands. Once renovation works have been completed, this sober, elegant estate will meet all requirements for a family home or for a commercial project.
