A fully renovated mansion house, spanning almost 350 m²,
in a 650 m² garden in the centre of Nantes
Nantes, LOIRE-ATLANTIQUE pays-de-loire 44000 FR

Nantes, a very dynamic town from an economic, social and cultural point of view, is less than an hour from the Atlantic coast. It is easy to move around the urban area, not only because of the miscellaneous public transport services, but also because of the extensive cycle path network. The TGV train station provides links to Paris taking less than 2 hours. The international airport is 20 minutes from the town centre.
Particularly well-known schools and shops are within easy walking distance of the house.

The main, rectangular building spans three levels, one of which is under the rafters. It is extended, on one side, by a wing and, on the other, by a garage. The light-coloured rendering of the facade, running along the street, is embellished with a stone string course between the first two levels as well as by quoins. The lower section is constructed from dressed stone. The arched windows and double front door are framed with moulded freestone surrounds. The garden, at the back out of sight of onlookers, can be reached all on a level from the ground floor rooms. It includes a small outbuilding used as an exercise room. The slate hip roof features roof dormers, topped with semi-circular pediments.
This vast residence has six bedrooms, each with its own bath or shower room, two studies, two lounges, a dining room and a recent fully fitted kitchen.

The house

The entrance hall is set in the middle of the main building. A wooden stairway, with baluster railings, goes up to all the floors.

Ground floor
A few stone steps go up from the street to the double front doors. The entrance hall, paved with large, imitation marble floor tiles, is lined with wainscoting, painted in very fashionable hues. It leads to the stairway, a hall area and a lounge. The latter, featuring herringbone pattern oak wood parquet flooring, is illuminated via a window and a French window, opening on to the garden. It is heated by a black marble fireplace.
The hall area provides access to a study, a lounge and an L-shaped dining room, illuminated via two windows on the road side and a French window on the garden side, and a kitchen. The latter opens on to the garden via two glazed doors. The granite worksurface as well as the first-class fixtures and fittings are a sign of the meticulous attention paid to its creation. All the ceilings on this level have moulding, some have roses. The rooms are laid with oak wood parquet flooring or recent floor tiles.

This level, half way between the ground and first floors, takes up the attic space in the wing. Reached via a stairway and illuminated via skylights, it features strip pattern parquet flooring as well as the exposed beams of the roofing framework, whilst the slopes of the roof are painted white. A black marble fireplace enhances the wall facing the door. A kitchen and a shower room, with a toilet, make this a self-contained flat.
First floor
The stairway leads to a central landing. The floors are laid with strip pattern parquet flooring throughout. The old doors and their handles have been renovated; the cast iron radiators are decorated. This landing provides access to a study, a bedroom, with a shower room and an adjoining dressing room, as well as to another bedroom, with its bathroom.
Second floor
This level is laid out under the rafters in the main building. The rooms are structured by the slopes of the roof and the beams left exposed in some of them. A corridor provides access to three bedrooms, each with its own shower room.

The garden and the outbuildings

This west-facing garden, enclosed by walls, is well protected behind the house and is made particularly pleasant by the amount of sunshine it receives. A stone terrace makes it easy for residents to go outside from the kitchen and the lounges. A gravel path leads to the outbuilding at the end of the garden.
This outbuilding, also renovated, is currently used as an exercise room.
A garage and a cellar complete this property.

Our opinion

This mansion house was built at the very beginning of the 20th century in answer to families seeking comfortable homes that included all the aesthetic features of the time. It gives great pleasure to find all these characteristics here: oak wood parquet flooring laid in strip or herringbone patterns, marble fireplaces, ceiling roses and moulding, wainscoting and decorated cast iron radiators. These accompany very high ceilings, together with a kitchen that will delight the most demanding of cooks, bath and shower rooms adjoining all the bedrooms as well as all modern-day home comforts. There are no works to be scheduled.
This mansion house, standing in the peace and quiet, in the midst of one of Nantes’ nicest districts, has been particularly well renovated. First-class materials were used and the decoration is beautifully aesthetic. The wooded, flower-filled garden, all on a level with the reception rooms, harmoniously enhances this rare property.
