A 172 m² flat, with a garage and a cellar,
in an 18th century building in the midst of Tour’s historic district
Tours, INDRE-ET-LOIRE center-val-de-loire 37000 FR

The “Cathédrale-Conservatoire” district, in the middle of Tours, is one of oldest in the city, with the castle and the 13th century religious edifice built within the walls of the Gallo-Roman town. Renowned today for its superb buildings, its monuments and its local shops, it is one of the city’s most sought-after areas. Everything from shops, schools, public transport and the TGV station, 5 minutes away, is within walking distance. This flat is in a one-way street, bordered by art galleries, antique shops, jewellers’ and boutiques selling interior decoration.

The 18th century building reveals a beautiful freestone facade, with perfectly regular, symmetrical openings. A wooden porchway, set between two shops on the ground floor and topped with a freestone, scrolled pediment, provides access to the communal areas. A covered passageway going through the building leads to an inner courtyard, abounding in flowers, which provides access to the garages. Old double wooden doors on either side, under the porch, open on to the stairways. This one is made of oak wood.

The flat

This flat is laid out on the first floor. Double wooden doors open into a wide vestibule with, on either side, double openings providing access to the south-facing lounge and the kitchen overlooking the courtyard. With herringbone pattern parquet flooring throughout, these adjoining living rooms are very luminous.
The square lounge has parquet flooring, two tall, south-facing windows and a marble fireplace flanked by bookshelf units.
The spacious kitchen, with parquet flooring and a fireplace, is illuminated via the courtyard. This flat has two separate night-time areas: the first, behind the kitchen, with a bedroom overlooking the courtyard, a dressing room, a shower room and a toilet; the second, adjoining the lounge, with two south-facing bedrooms, a bedroom overlooking the courtyard, a dressing room, a bathroom and a toilet. The flat, laid out in a U-shape around the courtyard, therefore has a triple aspect, making it extremely bright. The rooms and their old features such as the parquet flooring, the fireplaces, the panelling, the moulding as well as the windows, with their double-glazing and wrought casement bolts, make this flat a very pleasant and comfortable place to live.
A covered garage in the courtyard.
A cellar.

Our opinion

It is difficult to feel more in Tours than here. The district recounts the town’s history and the building blends in with a homogeneous group, far from any nuisances. The small co-owned building is immaculately kept. The flat’s outstanding interior layout is further enhanced by the effects due to its triple aspect. Urban life here gains a little more character.
