This property is between the towns of Poitiers (35 minutes) and Châtellerault (30 minutes), and their respective TGV train stations with 1⅓-hour and 1½-hour links to Paris. Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport is 2⅓ hours away also via TGV train. Poitiers airport has flights to Lyon and Marseille as well as London and Edinburg. 10 minutes by car from a market town with more than 2,000 inhabitants, all shops and amenities.


Set in countryside composed of meadows and woods, this property appears to suddenly materialise around a bend in a little lane. Its U-shaped outbuildings create a large courtyard, containing a swimming pool adjoining a grassy area. The courtyard also provides access to the guest house at the entrance to the property. Behind the outbuildings are a vegetable garden, an orchard and the superb ruins of a large dovecote. Beyond the house, grasslands and a lake come into view with, at the end, a small wood of young acacia trees. The main wood, predominantly planted with oak trees, runs alongside the house and the meadows, separated by a little road.

The house

This stone house has been renovated by its current residents in keeping with its historic features. Its spans two levels.

Ground floor
The stairway, going up to the first floor, is in the entrance hall. On the left-hand side is a lounge and on the right-hand side are a kitchen and a guest toilet, followed by a corridor leading to a study, a bathroom and a small lounge.
A fireplace takes pride of place in the lounge. The elegant soberness of the mantel’s stonework and the trumeau sets the tone. Terracotta floor tiles and rendering complete the overall impression. The lounge is steeped in light courtesy of a window as well as a French window opening on the south side and a second west-facing window. Two doorways make it possible to reach the entrance corridor from the lounge. The kitchen features another fireplace, standing on terracotta floor tiles. This room receives light via a large, south-facing French window. Another door, on the north side, leads to a laundry room and a covered outside area adjoining the house. The kitchen communicates with a corridor which leads to a study, a bathroom, with a shower and a bath, and finally to a little lounge, featuring a large picture window that opens on to the swimming pool.

First floor
The wooden stairway, in the entrance hall, goes up to a landing, followed by a mezzanine room. Four bedrooms are laid out on the first floor. A first bedroom is near to a bathroom, with a shower and toilet, whilst a corridor leads to three bedrooms and a toilet at the other end.

The outbuildings

Once through the entrance to this property, the guest house is to be found on the right-hand side, before storage areas used for parking cars and keeping garden tools. On the left-hand side are old buildings for accommodating farm animals. They also house a small exercise room. The position of the outbuildings, topped with tile roofs, contributes to the privacy of the residence.

The guest house

This guest house, one of the outbuildings, has a separate entrance into a large room with a kitchen area and a door leading to a shower room with a toilet. This room features a fireplace and terracotta floor tiles. A wooden stairway goes up to a bedroom.

Our opinion

The lake, in which the closely-planted trees are reflected, gives rise to aesthetic feelings whatever the sky. The outbuildings enclose an area like a friendly school playground, which protects the privacy of the swimming pool and the residence. The latter, topped with its slate roof featuring breaks and highly decorative roof dormers, is extremely attractive. This large, luxurious home has been renovated but can still be improved upon as there are areas in the annex buildings awaiting conversion in accordance with personal requirements and tastes. Nothing is urgent; this is a house that encourages residents to take their time.
