“I was born in the town of Aubagne beneath the Garlaban decked with goats, in the last days of the goatherds”. Marcel Pagnol’s book La Gloire de mon père begins with these lines, celebrating Provence. This region still exists, here in the heart of the Luberon Park, on a small hill offering exceptional views, with countless vineyards and olive trees to the south and the hillsides of the Luberon in the distance. The panoramic scene is completely unspoilt. 20 minutes from the A7 motorway, 30 minutes from the TGV station, 50 minutes from Marseille international airport, 15 minutes from an 18-hole golf course, 10 minutes from all amenities.


The estate comprises more than five hectares, two of which are planted with vines. The buildings form a hamlet consisting of a bastide, a tenant's house, a barn converted into a concert hall, a hayloft, a dovecote and a mill. The site is in a dominant position amidst an undulating landscape. The idyllic setting offers views over large picturesque surroundings. A pine wood with a resinous and woody fragrance evoking the scent of holidays alternates with centuries-old oaks, an olive grove or some old fig trees.
A swimming pool blends into the landscape.
The total floor area is about 900 m².

The bastide

The bastide is the type of dwelling that became popular at the end of the 17th century, a summer residence, between a castle and a private mansion, combined with a farm. The main building of this property dates from 1690. The three-storey bastide, built in stone with buttresses, is embellished with flagstone terraces surrounded by low dry-stone walls to protect from the Mistral wind. The roof is made of old monk and nun tiles and the genoise (decorative frieze under the eaves) has as many rows of tiles as there are levels, here three: the number of rows reflected the social rank of the owner. The house boasts high ceilings and large openings.

Ground floor
The entrance is on the south-facing façade. A solid wooden door with openwork and ashlar surrounds leads into the hallway with a terracotta floor. The large living room features exposed beams with a more or less circular cross section, a traditional technique in Provence. The floor is made of terracotta. At the back, an old stone fireplace, wooden joinery and numerous plastered niches. The dining room walls are lime plastered, as are most of the walls in the property. It boasts old cupboards with painted wooden doors inserted in the thick wall. A stone fireplace. Two steps lead down from the dining room to the kitchen featuring a terracotta floor, built-in furniture with wooden doors, numerous recesses and a worktop covered with Provençal earthenware tiles. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a cooking range. The beams are visible. An arched French window opens onto a west-facing terrace. Adjacent to the kitchen is a hallway with a cloakroom decorated with old sanded wooden doors, toilets, a laundry/boiler room and a first office with a floor covered with terracotta tiles.
First floor
On the north side, a landing leads to a bathroom with a built-in cupboard with wooden doors, small windows and tiled walls, and a bedroom with parquet flooring. On the south-west side, an office with built-in cupboards and parquet flooring. On the east side, a master suite boasts a parqueted bedroom with wooden joinery and a very bright shower room with a marble tiled walk-in shower, a marble covered fitted countertop, a full height mirror, a separate toilet and a wardrobe with old painted doors.
Second floor
On the south side, a staircase leads to a very bright landing with parquet flooring. This serves: a bedroom with parquet flooring and an adjoining shower room with full height storage and a masonry work surface; a second bedroom with parquet flooring; an adjoining bathroom with marble tiled walls and a built-in cupboard; a wardrobe. On the north side, a small stone staircase leads up to a landing with a terracotta floor and an open-plan suite comprising two sleeping areas, a shower room with shower cabin and toilet. Interior wooden shutters.

"Le Moulin" (The Mill) guest house

An old mill, which long ago lost its sails and millstone used to grind grain, recalls the agricultural past of this place. It is perched on the top of the Mourre, a word derived from the Provençal language and often used to designate rounded peaks, similar to the famous Moulin de Maître Cornille, aptly described by Alphonse Daudet. It has been converted into a gîte.

Ground floor
Completely renovated, the floor is made of old terracotta, the walls are plastered with lime, the heating is electric. The entrance leads directly to the living room and equipped kitchen. The stonework worktop is covered with earthenware tiles. On the floor, a hatch gives access to the original mill mechanism. There are several plastered recesses.
First floor
A spiral staircase leads to this level featuring a bedroom with a marble tiled walk-in shower room. The countertop is also in marble and the stonework cupboards have painted wooden doors.

"La Fenière" (The Hayloft) guest house

The entrance leads to the living room with its tiled floor. The fully equipped kitchen, with a tiled worktop and a bar at an angle, opens onto the living room with a stone fireplace. The bathroom has a washbasin set into the marble top, half-tiled walls and a stonework cabinet with painted wooden doors. A first bedroom includes stonework cupboards with painted wooden doors. A second bedroom comes with stonework wardrobes and painted wooden doors, and its adjoining shower room with shower cabinet and tiled walls. Private terrace facing north. Oil-fired boiler heating via the bastide.

"La Magnaneraie" (The Silk Farm) guest house

Three stone steps with iron railings lead to a living room with an old floor made of tiles laid in a diamond pattern and stone fireplace. The ceiling is beamed and there are many stonework recesses and moulded wooden doors. The kitchen is closed and fitted with low storage units. A first bedroom with sloping ceiling, built-in cupboards and parquet flooring. The bathroom features an antique washbasin, an antique bathtub and half-tiled walls. The second bedroom has parquet floor, the stonework cupboards are fitted with old painted wooden doors. In the adjoining shower room the washbasin is wall-hung and the walk-in shower has marble tiles on the walls. The heating is electric throughout the gîte.

"Le Métayer" (The Tenant Farmer) guest house

Two steps lead up to the entrance and the kitchen featuring stone interior surrounds and exposed ceiling beams. The living room has a terracotta floor and a stone fireplace. Beamed ceiling. A first bedroom with a bathroom with a period tiled floor, an antique pedestal sink and an antique bathtub, a tiled walk-in shower. A second bedroom features a ceiling with round beams, an old stone fireplace and an en-suite shower room with walk-in shower. A third bedroom. Stone terrace with ironwork pergola.

"Le Pigeonnier" (The Dovecote) guest house

A French window gives access to the living room, which also serves as a kitchen (equipped). The floor is paved with terracotta tiles, the open kitchen features a tiled hatch. Stone fireplace. A tiled stone staircase with wooden nosing and iron handrail leads to the first floor. The first bedroom features a tiled floor, plastered lime walls, stonework wardrobes, an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and half-tiled walls. The second bedroom has a tiled floor, plastered lime walls and an adjoining Italian shower room with earthenware tiles. Private terrace.

"La Fontaine du Patio" (The Patio Fountain) guest house

This gîte is accessed is via the inner courtyard. A one and half leaf painted wood door opens onto the living room which serves as a kitchen (equipped and with built-in furniture): terracotta floor, wooden joinery, ceiling with exposed beams. The bedroom offers a vaulted plastered ceiling,a tiled floor and rendered whitewashed walls. The bathroom features a walk-in shower, a bathtub, a tiled floor, full height cupboards and a vaulted plastered ceiling. Private terrace and pergola. View of the west courtyard and its fountain. The heating is oil-fired, supplied by the boiler of the bastide.

Reception/seminar room

Facing the bastide sits a former silk farm, where the upper floor has been converted into a reception room, the location of acclaimed concerts. A stone staircase gives access to a foyer followed by the seminar/concert/wedding room boasting a large stone fireplace, high ceilings with traditional exposed beams and comprehensive light fittings. Fully equipped kitchen. To the back lies a bedroom with parquet floor, adjoining Italian shower room and toilet.

Our opinion

This is an exceptionally beautiful and peaceful site, set in soft and harmonious landscapes, it is just the perfect location. We are here in the countryside, on one of those familiar little hills at the foot of the Luberon. In this little paradise, the six houses, including the elegant bastide, have all been faithfully and individually restored with a sense of elegant femininity. Each dwelling has its own character and is fully equipped and most comfortable. The soul of the property has been preserved. There is no flashy luxury here. Of the ensemble, it is the mill that dominates: standing out in the landscape from afar, it recounts the wisdom it has gathered through the ages with its partner, the old oak which embraces it with its great branches.
