On the borders of the Perche and Haut-Vendômois regions,
a house along the Eure Valley in the Loir-et-Cher department
Ruan-sur-Egvonne, LOIR-ET-CHER center-val-de-loire 41270 FR

This house is between Châteaudun and Vendôme, near to Fréteval Forest, an area which is but waiting for nature lovers, with its hiking trails, its 32 km of cycle paths “Alongside the Loir”, and its proximity to the village of Cloyes-sur-le-Loir. Châteaudun train station, with 1½-hour links to Paris-Austerlitz, is a 20-minute drive away. Motorway slip roads are 40 minutes away.

“La Perronnière” looks down on to a little, countrified valley. This quiet setting is free of neighbours and nuisances. The village is immaculately kept by the town council which takes great pains to plant flowers along the roadsides. Discreet, remote-controlled gates open on to the garden, where a thick layer of gravel enables guests visiting by car to keep their feet dry in bad weather. The house can be entered either via a glazed door, sheltered by an awning and opening into a lounge, or via a little back door, opening into the kitchen. A swimming pool, at the end of the garden beyond the hedges, is in a good state of repair. A garage under an awning, able to take two cars, stands next to some garden sheds.

The house and its outbuildings

“La Perronière”, once a bakery, was transformed after the Second World War into a family home. This house, topped with a recently renovated, slate roof, spans approx. 200 m² over two levels, including the area under the slopes of the roof upstairs. The robust facades, covered with Virginia Creeper, are aligned with inward-opening, small-paned windows. Next to the house are a garage, under an awning, two garden sheds, a stone-built, barbecue area and, under the house, a workshop.
The garden has been landscaped as if by an expert, with no frills and fancies. Beautifully planted, with little trellises going down towards the valley, the view stretching into the distance and welcome shade making stays comfortable in the height of the summer.

Ground floor
The main rooms: a lounge, with a rustic fireplace in good working order, and a dining room adjoin three bedrooms with a bathroom.
First floor
A bedroom and a bathroom. Not counted as bedrooms, two small rooms could be used as children’s bedrooms or be united to form one large area. A large, well-insulated room under the rafters is used as an attic.
A lower level is laid out as a utility room with a boiler room, a watering system and a workshop.

Tall trees, meadows on a lower level, a flower garden, with decoratively trimmed bushes and trees pruned to provide shade or sun depending on the time of day and the area, all is unpretentiously designed to exude charm and practical simplicity. Somewhat concealed, with a good aspect, the swimming pool is an invitation not only to take exercise, but also to spend time in contemplation.

Our opinion

A pleasant house in pristine condition, able to accommodate guests all year round, easy to open and close with its white shutters and easy to maintain. The layout is ideally suited to a contemporary way of life. This home is designed for a family who enjoy entertaining friends. It is even welcoming during the winter, whilst summers here have an air of Tuscany, between swimming, reading or working under the arbour, walking or cycling, views of the region and barbecues outside near to decoratively trimmed bushes after visiting the Sunday morning market in Cloyes-sur-le-Loir.
