A sea-facing property with almost one hectare of grounds,
nestled in the south of Brittany’s Finistère department
Moëlan-sur-Mer, FINISTERE brittany 29350 FR

Location

The property is tucked away in Moëlan-sur-Mer, a calm, sea-facing town beside inlets, small ports and coastal footpaths. Moëlan-sur-Mer offers delightful coves with secret beaches. Megalithic remains can be seen here too. The town centre is just a few minutes from the property. There you can find amenities for everyday needs. The property is also close to major roads and trainlines. Carnoët forest and the River Bélon are nearby too. And from Quimperlé train station, which is close, you can get to Paris in three and a half hours by high-speed rail.

Description

The south-facing house looks out at the sea. It stands on an undulating plot of land that covers almost one hectare. The property is located at the end of a cul-de-sac on a site listed as a remarkable space. The house lies in a commanding position in the middle of its grounds, which are made up of gardens, cosy corners and wilder spots, among moor and gorse. A coastal path runs alongside the plot. It can be quickly and easily reached and it takes you to the shore in just a few minutes. Indeed, a little further down, there is a pleasant little beach. There is also a swimming pool on the east side of the grounds. The house was built at the start of the 1970s. Its elevations are plain and rendered in a pale tone. The dwelling is crowned with a gabled slate roof. On the roof’s south slope, there are two broad shed dormers, one of which has a balcony with a metal guardrail. On its north slope, there are three gabled dormers. The building has a ground floor and a first floor. It offers a 200m² floor area and has four bedrooms. From the rooms, you can admire sweeping views of the sea. A terrace extends the dwelling’s south side.

The house

The building’s architecture is typically neo-Breton in style, with generous, practical spaces that can easily be adjusted.

The ground floor
The entrance door is on the north side. From there, a corridor connects to the reception rooms on both sides. There is a first lounge, which faces west. It has a fireplace made of stone, brick and timber. This fireplace houses an insert. At a slightly raised level lies a second lounge, at a right angle to the first one. It is filled with natural light from large windows that look out at the garden and sea. On the east side, there is a kitchen, extended with a dining room where a staircase leads up to the first floor. A utility room lies at the back. This ground floor also has a bathroom, a shower, a lavatory and a pantry. Wood strip flooring extends across some of the rooms, while other floors are tiled.

The upstairs
A mezzanine landing leads out onto a balcony via French windows. A corridor connects to four bedrooms, all of which face the sea, and to a bathroom with a lavatory. The floors are carpeted and in some rooms the walls and ceiling are wood-strip-cladded.

Our opinion

This charming Breton property is a rare gem facing the endless ocean. The delightful dwelling is both welcoming and comfortable. Its layout is pleasant and its spacious rooms are bathed in natural light from windows that offer sea views like remarkable paintings. Some renovation work would breathe new life into the interior. From here, the enchanting views outside change with the passing of the seasons. The cosy, secluded haven enjoys absolute privacy. It would be the ideal family home or a dream holiday home. Beside the garden, with a fragrance of flowering gorse, a coastal path cuts through moor down to a secret cove where you can swim leisurely and where children can play freely.
