A villa in a property emblematic of the seaside resort of Deauville,
500 m from the beach, La-Toques racecourse and Place-Morny
Deauville, CALVADOS lower-normandy 14800 FR

Deauville, a mythical seaside resort on the Fleurie coast, is one of the most characteristic sites in the Auge Country, with its pleasant, flowering countryside. This residence is less than 500 m from all the emblematic sites, including the Barrière casino, Le-Normandy hotel and the market place. The street is one of the most sought-after in Deauville. The train station, a kilometre away, provides 130-minute links to Paris.

The famous Les-Planches seafront promenade and the casino, the two main features of this holiday resort, were inaugurated in 1864. An avenue, running perpendicular to the shore, links the casino to the racecourse, another main feature of the town’s leisure activities. Two symmetrical buildings, both from the same era, stand on either side of this avenue. Constructed from brick, sometimes laid in a chessboard pattern, half-timbering and quarry stone blocks, their two ends are flanked by a square pavilion. The slate Mansard-style roofs feature numerous roof dormers. Arcades supporting a wide terrace border the facades of the buildings. This villa is incorporated into one of them.

The villa

The first floor and its terrace are given over to reception rooms, topped with areas used for night-time purposes.
A 2-storey flat has been laid out on the ground floor and the garden level. A wicket gate at the end of the landscaped garden, gives it independent access.

The villa and its terrace

A door in the main facade opens into a vestibule, followed by a few steps and a corridor. A stairway goes up from there to the first floor.

Garden level
A sauna and a laundry area are installed on this level.
First floor
The stairway goes up to a vast landing. Two wide French windows face one another. They are topped with a semi-circular-arched, glazed fanlight and lead to the lounge and the dining room. A little hall area leads to the kitchen. The floor on this level is covered with strip pattern parquet flooring. The kitchen and the dining room are illuminated via large, slightly arched windows. A dressed stone fireplace, with a carved wooden mantel, in the lounge is opposite a large bookshelf unit. Wainscoting lines the walls. Two steps, then a French window, open on to a vast terrace.
Second floor
A toilet has been installed half-way up the stairway between the first and second floors. The second-floor landing provides access, on one side, to two bedrooms, a shower room as well as a toilet and, on the other side, to the main bedroom, with its bathroom, shower and toilet.
A large bedroom has been laid out, together with a bathroom, a study and a separate toilet. It is illuminated via three skylights.

The self-contained flat

This flat can be reached via two separate entrances: either via the vestibule in the villa or via a French window opening on to the garden.

Ground floor
The hall area provides access, on one side, to two bedrooms. Light floods in through a large, arched window in one and through a French window opening on to a balcony in the other. Two doors, on the other side, lead to a shower room and a toilet. A spiral stairway goes down to the garden level.
Garden level
A white-painted, wooden stairway leads to a vast room. It is illuminated via a window and a French window, both slightly arched. The latter opens on to a little terrace and a garden. The floor is covered with light-coloured oak wood, wide strip pattern parquet flooring. A brick fireplace, with a wooden mantel, decorates one wall. A kitchen, laid out in a corner on the opposite side, is separated from the room by glazed walls.
The garden
The terrace, paved with large terracotta tiles, is extended by a landscaped garden. A narrow, gravel alleyway, separating it into two longwise, leads to a wicket gate opening on to the street. It is dotted on either side with decoratively trimmed boxwood bushes, flower beds and small pruned trees. Flanked by tall cedar hedges, the garden is predominantly concealed from onlookers.

Our opinion

Just two hours from Paris, this elegant town is the Normandy seaside resort the most well-known throughout the world. It is easy to follow in the footsteps of Coco-Chanel, Tristan-Bernard or André-Citroën. Strolling the streets of Deauville is like visiting an open-air museum, with seaside architecture. The villas and other architectural follies, radiating out from Place-Morny, reflect not only exuberance but also a great variety of style.
Courtesy of this villa, the restoration of which is particularly successful, and its privileged setting, it would be possible to live next to the Parisian smart set, aristocrats as well as current and past celebrities.
