Description
The main entrance to the residence is via a large, glazed door, equipped with an intercom. At the rear of the entrance hall, the inner courtyard and cellars can be reached via a large, Art Deco inspired, wrought-iron gate. To the right at the back of the vestibule, there is an elevator to all the storeys, except for the seventh floor, encased in a metal hoist-way. A distinctive feature of the building is the excellent condition of its communal areas. A 14-m² former maid’s room on the seventh floor and two cellars in the basement are also included in the property.
The apartment
Once through the entrance door, a large hall including plenty of cupboard space leads to a dining room with a marble fireplace and a lounge, also boasting a red marble fireplace with white veining topped by an overmantel. The apartment is generously bathed in light through wide windows fitted with wrought-iron guard rails. The ceilings, which are considerably high, boast mouldings, while the flooring combines mat, waxed, herringbone wood flooring in the main rooms plus black and white tiles in the entrance and separate fully fitted kitchen, which stands next to a corridor situated to the rear of the building. Three of the four bedrooms boast wood-stripped flooring and overlook the peaceful inner courtyard. The property is completed by two bathrooms equipped with showers, a lavatory, a wealth of large storage spaces plus bookshelves.
Our opinion
This apartment seems to have safeguarded the peaceful memory of its distinguished origins. There is no need for any restoration, for everything harmoniously comes together, with a discrete elegance in keeping with the prestigious boulevard in Lille that it overlooks, where listed facades provide a soothing sense of continuity. Renting out the former maid’s room, set apart and carefully maintained, provides the possibility of supplementary income. The property also boasts a further asset in the form of a covered parking space, only 200 metres away, adding to the convenience of this already privileged address. Lastly, the two cellars could be useful for storing wine or other delicacies.
The current occupants have smartly incorporated plants into the interior decoration, in the style of 18th-century aristocratic residences, with delicate greenery, select fabrics and elegantly designed furniture, some of which may be included in the sale.
As a whole, the property boasts a decor to be contemplated, breathed in an experienced, in which each detail seems to dialogue with history.
