A 29m² studio apartment with a terrace, within a 19th-century
chateau on a 140-hectare golfing estate near the city of Tours
Tours, INDRE-ET-LOIRE center-val-de-loire 37000 FR

Location

The studio apartment lies on a golfing estate in a bucolic landscape of forests and small valleys in the Loire Valley, an area of France listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The chateau was built between the years 1873 and 1875 on a 140-hectare estate. It was bought by the golf course in 1971 and integrated into the 18-hole course, which was inaugurated two years later. The vast estate is dotted with lakes and countless trees. Indeed, the site has been accredited with the silver-level certification label for golf course biodiversity. The vibrant city of Tours with its high-speed train station, from where you can get to Paris in only an hour by rail, is just 20 minutes away. And you can reach the French capital in a little over two and a half hours by road too. The Château de Villandry and the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau, two splendid jewels of built heritage, are nearby, as are several towns offering shops, amenities and fine restaurants, including some along the banks of the River Cher.

Description

The chateau has a ground floor, a first floor and a second floor in the roof space. It has rendered elevations with quoins and window surrounds of exposed tuffeau stone. Its central section has a northern avant-corps, capped with a stone balustrade. This central section is flanked with two pavilions. The chateau is crowned with a slate roof, punctuated with gabled dormers and, on the pavilions, bull’s-eye windows. The ground floor is taken up by a restaurant belonging to the golf course. This restaurant is closed in the evenings. Above it, there is a first floor and a second floor. They are divided into private apartments. Stone steps lead up to a vast entrance hall. Two wooden staircases with sculpted balustrades join each other to lead up to a corridor that takes you to the different dwellings. The studio apartment lies on the first floor and faces south. From the apartment, French windows lead out onto a large 18m² terrace where you can admire views of the lush golf course. Wooden louvred shutters protect the dwelling from the sun. The main room has a high ceiling, underlined with cornices and embellished with a ceiling rose. One wall includes wooden panelling and a fireplace made of brick and black marble. The whole room was recently repainted in pale tones. The floor is carpeted. A door leads into a kitchen. And the hallway takes you to a bathroom with a lavatory and full-height storage compartments.

Our opinion

In this delightful studio apartment, you can enjoy life in an authentic chateau without worrying about the constraints that usually go with such a majestic property. From the apartment’s terrace, you can admire pleasant views of a lush golf course, where golf stops at the end of the day to give way to the estate’s absolute calm. Here, golf lovers will find a place in line with their passion, of course. But others will especially appreciate a silent backdrop for everyday life, near the charming city of Tours.
