A renovated Parisian apartment overlooking the River Seine from a
17th-century quayside townhouse on Île Saint-Louis island in the city's old heart
Paris, PARIS paris 75004 FR

Location

The Quai d’Anjou, a riverside street on the north side of Île Saint-Louis island in central Paris, is one of the most highly sought-after spots in the old heart of the French capital. The island’s urban structure was developed in the 17th century. It stands out for its evenly sized quays and its authentic architecture of similarly designed edifices, notably townhouses with classical facades. The apartment is a short stroll from the trendy Marais district, from Notre-Dame Cathedral and from the historical right-hand bank of the River Seine. Its backdrop is residential. Moreover, it is well connected to public transport links: the metro stops Pont Marie (line 7) and Saint-Paul (line 1) are nearby.

Description

You step through a carriage entrance doorway in an elegant 17th-century townhouse on a quay on Île Saint-Louis river island. A remarkable staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade leads to the upper floors. The communal areas have been well maintained. They reflect the special attention paid to the edifice. The fully renovated apartment lies up on the third floor. Its layout is simple and smooth and its rooms are well proportioned. The dwelling offers a 130m² floor area (or 127m² of liveable floor area according to France’s Carrez law). It includes a vast entrance hall, a 60m² double-section reception space, an open-plan kitchen and two bedrooms: one that has a shower room and one that faces the inner court and has a bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. On the street-facing side, the rooms are bathed in natural light from large, small-paned windows with Cremona bolts. These windows are also fitted with wooden indoor shutters. Exposed beams run across the ceilings. The floors, which are soundproofed, are adorned with pale oak strips. Three windows that face the River Seine bring natural light into the reception space. This space includes a dining area and a 40m² lounge with an onyx fireplace. The adjoining kitchen combines Taj Mahal quartzite with cherrywood panels tinged with walnut ink. This fully fitted kitchen includes two sinks and a wine storage space. The first bedroom, which neighbours the lounge, extends the view outside. A pane of ribbed glass lets natural light into its shower room and showcases its terracotta tiles. You can reach a separate lavatory from the shower room and from the lounge. On the court side, there is the main bedroom with a floor area of over 20m² and a clear view. Its walk-in wardrobe, which also has cherrywood doors, hides the entrance to a 10m² bathroom. This bright bathroom is adorned with travertine, concrete and terracotta. It has English-style washbasins, a bathtub, a shower and a lavatory.

Our opinion

This elegant apartment is a rare gem, ideally located in the heart of Paris. Both its location and architectural coherence make it a unique dwelling. Its refined decor combines cherrywood and Taj Mahal quartzite with exposed whitened ceiling beams to create a soothing, timeless atmosphere. The clear view of the River Seine extends the vista from the vast reception space. From this pleasant haven, you can leisurely stroll around the river island or enjoy contemplative moments as you gaze out through windows that appear like paintings of a beautiful cityscape.
