Location
The flat is situated in the south of the 18th arrondissement, in a small cobbled street leading up to the Montmartre hill. It lies halfway between the commercial bustle of Barbès and the bohemian life in the Abbesses district, between fashionable hangouts, small terraces and strolls in the Square Louise-Michel. Film lovers can go to the dark rooms of the Louxor, a mythical establishment restored in 2013, and aficionados of colourful evenings can meet in Pigalle, a few blocks away. The Barbès-Rochechouart metro station (lines 2 and 4) is just a stone's throw away and allows to cross the capital from North to South and from East to West.
Description
The commonhold
This is a 1994 six-storey building which offers all the modern comforts: a secured entrance area with camera, a caretaker, an underground car park accessed by lift (with the option to buy a parking space), and cellars. The discreet street facade hides a generous interior garden.
The flat
Accessed by lift, the property has recently been renovated to a high standard. Behind the entrance door, the hallway/library serves all the rooms providing a total living area of 86 m². The reception area is divided into a lounge and a dining room and provides access to the terrace via a double French window. The functional kitchen is adjacent to the living room. Entirely fitted out, it features a large glass roof allowing the light to pour in. A glass door has been installed between the kitchen and the living room to create a discreet serving hatch. The two bedrooms - generously sized and with straight strip parquet flooring - also open through glass doors onto the terrace. The bathroom with pure, chiselled lines comprises a walk-in shower, a double sink and a large mirror. Further on follow a separate lavatory, a laundry room and storage space.
The large terrace is the key feature of the flat, it enjoys an ideal exposure to the setting sun during the summer months. This genuine belvedere overlooks the quiet and peaceful gardens of the commonhold. On one side, there is a space for sitting down to eat, and on the other, an outdoor lounge. The terrace is perfectly landscaped and includes an automatic watering system.
Our opinion
Heaven is “to sit on the terrace on a summer’s evening, enjoy a drink with one or two friends and listen to the silence”, as Sir Alec Guinness once said. No doubt the British actor was a man of wisdom. The large and stylish terrace is more than just a valuable asset or a mere ornamental garden. This is the centrepiece of the flat, where everyone can read, sleep or just live beneath the open sky. It offers an extra soul to this calm and luminous property, which meets all the requirements of modern comfort and where the materials have been carefully chosen to allow tranquil enjoyment.
