A recently renovated Parisian house from the 19th century with a terrace,
nestled in the La Chapelle district of the city’s 18th arrondissement
Paris, PARIS paris 75018 FR

Location

The house lies in the Parisian district of La Chapelle, a former town nestled between the hills of Montmartre and Belleville on the road that once linked Paris to the old town of Saint-Denis. In 1860, La Chapelle became part of Paris as the French capital expanded. The street has borne its current name since 1865 in tribute to a general of the former French Empire. The district grew during the industrial revolution, especially thanks to the arrival of railways, which swelled the local population and brought in droves of workers from the countryside. Some houses have resisted urbanisation. This property for sale is a good example of such historical dwellings. Line 2 of the Parisian metro network, built at the start of the 20th century, has helped open up the area. Indeed, the metro station La Chapelle is conveniently only around 100 metres away from the house.

Description

The detached house dates back to the late 19th century. It is characteristic of the district, with its plain facade and zinc roof. It looks out at the street. But you enter the dwelling via a paved passageway that connects to an apartment building at the back. A new door, designed in an early-20th-century style, leads straight into a kitchen with a central island unit and a space for meals. This kitchen offers a floor area of over 20m². It has been converted with light-toned wooden units beneath a grey marble work surface. A spiral staircase leads down to a living room at a lower level. A large room with a ceiling height of around five metres serves as a lounge and dining room. A wood-burning stove offers warmth and comfort. On the ground floor, beyond the kitchen, there are two bedrooms that look out at a court, as well as a shower room with a walk-in shower and a lavatory. The upstairs floor has two street-facing bedrooms. Each of these high-ceilinged bedrooms has storage spaces. The spacious bathroom, which includes a lavatory, looks out at a terrace. The bathroom’s walls and floor are adorned with grey ceramic tiles and the shower is a walk-in shower. A utility room that also serves as a walk-in wardrobe separates the bedrooms from the bathroom. Lastly, a mezzanine lies at the top. You reach the terrace from the upstairs landing. It covers over 25m² and faces west. The terrace is made from exotic wood, as are the planters, in which tomatoes or herbs could be grown. All the windows are fitted with electric shutters. Recently fitted electric radiators heat the home up.

Our opinion

This delightful dwelling is an integral part of its district’s history, blending into the urban environment harmoniously. Detached houses like this one are rare gems in Paris. Indeed, there are fewer than 12,000 of them throughout the French capital. So owning one is a luxury. As soon as you step into the entrance hall, you are struck by the warm welcome of the open-plan fitted kitchen that sets the tone for the rest of the house: a range of rooms, a modern renovation and remarkable spaciousness. A family would find, in this property, a perfect home that is practical and well laid out, without any waste of space and four true bedrooms. Upstairs, a vast terrace extends the interior outwards. This outdoor space could be turned into a green backdrop like an ornamental garden. In this property, you can live your dreams straight away, without any renovation work required.
