Île Saint-Louis island is the result of large-scale urban development that lasted from 1616 to 1660 and that joined two isles to form a five-hectare expanse of land in the middle of the River Seine. Since then, the distinguished range of edifices on this city island has remained virtually intact, characterised by rows of townhouse facades that look out from the banks of the Seine and by old apartment buildings that stand along the isle’s inner streets and that house shops. Île Saint-Louis is an enchanting place for leisurely strolls, as much for tourists as for Parisians. This prestigious spot in the French capital’s historical heart draws people for the high quality of life that it offers. And since the Covid pandemic, permanent dwellers have settled here, as have specialist food shops. You can reach the island from Pont-Marie metro stop on line 7.
Description
The studio apartment is tucked away on the calm street Rue Budé, between shops and the banks of the River Seine. It lies on the first floor of a small commonhold building that has two apartments per floor. The dwelling looks out at an inner court with plants. The facade is made of stone and rendered. Its architectural articulation is plain. Rectangular windows with wrought-iron balustrades punctuate the facade. A broad double door of solid wood with mouldings leads into a paved covered entrance area that takes you to the inner court. A spiral staircase with wooden steps, a wrought-iron balustrade and a wooden handrail leads up to the building’s different floors and takes you to the apartment. A double door leads into the main room. Chevron parquet adorns the floor and exposed beams run across the ceiling. The ceiling height is around three metres. Doors conceal a kitchenette, where a washing machine and dishwasher could be installed. The studio apartment also includes a shower room, which has a shower, a washbasin and a lavatory. The whole dwelling has original high-quality architectural features and is pleasantly sized.
Our opinion
This studio apartment enjoys one of the best locations on a highly sought-after isle in central Paris: Île Saint-Louis. It lies near shops and the banks of the River Seine. The dwelling would be the perfect pied-à-terre. It has noble qualities as it was created from an adjacent apartment, all the characteristics of which it displays on a smaller scale. Indeed, this haven is a concentration of elegance, tucked away in the French capital’s prestigious heart.
