Location
The nineteenth arrondissement of Paris used to be farmland. Industrial buildings and cinema studios later filled the area. Today, it is a rich hub of culture. The Jaurès–Secrétan district is a vibrant neighbourhood of the French capital that is currently undergoing exciting change. It lies close to the undulating Buttes-Chaumont park and the tree-lined Saint-Martin canal. The district was recently renovated: it is now leafier and more pedestrianised, which has delighted local residents. The apartment is nestled in a street full of natural light, a few metres from the Bassin de la Villette artificial lake that Napoleon Bonaparte inaugurated in 1808. It is just a stone’s throw from the metro stops Jaurès (on lines 2 and 5) and Bolivar (on line 7b).
Description
Inside this apartment with a floor area of 74m², original fireplaces and parquet floors have been preserved. This dual-aspect dwelling faces east and west and is filled with natural light all day long. A hallway connects to a lounge and dining area, a separate kitchen, a bathroom, a separate lavatory and two bedrooms, one of which looks out over a court. The property includes a cellar in the basement too.
The apartment
The apartment lies on the building’s fourth level. It offers a floor area of 74m². Its decorative features are characteristic of the nineteenth century. Its hallway – a space of over 9m² – connects to all the rooms around it in a radial layout, which saves space and makes it easy to get around inside. A reception room of more than 20m² extends beneath cornices and includes two fireplaces. Chevron-patterned parquet adorns its floor and two windows protected by wrought-iron guardrails fill it with natural light. A long, narrow, separate kitchen covers more than 7m² of floor area and incorporates many high and low storage spaces. There are two bedrooms. They have parquet flooring and one of them includes a wardrobe. They share a bathroom with a large shower.
Our opinion
Nineteenth-century classicism is tastefully combined here with contemporary fittings. The latter brings out the former and vice versa.
The communal areas are filled with natural light. They are well maintained and their original embellishments have been well preserved.
The whole dwelling forms a pleasant home in a vibrant district of Paris.
