Our opinion

This tall, elegant, stone silhouette stands on the edge of the forest, near to a little, tranquil stream. Not far from the large, Benedictine abbeys of Maredsous and Maredret, this authentic chateau-farm could illustrate one of the tales told by Perrault or the Grimm brothers. The building is, above all, one of the most outstanding expressions of local architecture, set on a 20-ha estate composed of meadows and woods. The main building appears to have been frozen in time during the last century, in an aristocratic decor, worthy of a large family home. It still has numerous original features, some of which date back to the 17th century, when this building was constructed. Furthermore, this property also includes outbuildings, notably with a farm, a barn and an old vegetable garden. The highlight of any visit unquestionably remains the neo-gothic chapel, its splendid stained-glass windows illuminating its beautifully painted ceiling. A moment to give thanks and to contemplate, soothed but by the rustling of the forest outside. Marcel-Aymé wrote that it was still a small part of paradise lost.
