Our opinion
Some properties are for sale. This one is passed down through the family. Tuscany had not yet coined the word ‘Renaissance’ when it was already building this fortress between Florence and Siena. Lorenzo de’ Medici stayed here. Pope Clement made his home here. The walls have preserved it all: the soaring ceilings of the salons, the consecrated chapel, the towers from which the view takes in 1,200 hectares of vineyards and olive groves stretching to the horizon. With over fifty rooms, an 18th-century villa, Italian-style gardens and swimming pools, the estate is a state within a state, sovereign and serene, untouched by the passage of six centuries. There are very few properties of this kind in the world. This is one of them.
