The banks of the river Meuse between Liège and Namur conceal some of Belgium’s most beautiful homes in their meanders. This chateau, between a defensive stronghold and a romantic residence, is just 10 km from the “Fervent City”. Although predominantly dating from the 17th century, its much older foundations are said to date from the Middle-Ages. A bridge makes it possible to cross the wide moat, still filled with water, and to access the building, made outstanding by its tall round tower, topped with a weathervane. The inside is a journey back to the 17th century, through wide adjoining rooms, with panelling and fireplaces in an excellent state of preservation, despite awaiting renovation. The estate is completed by two wings, set on either side of a grassy courtyard, as well as an old French formal garden and miscellaneous outbuildings. Listed as a Belgian Historic Monument, this chateau would make an elegant figurehead for a tourist or a hotel and catering project.
