Location

The commune is located in the Entre-deux-Mers vineyards, in the Gironde, around 50 km east of Bordeaux and 20 km south-east of Saint-Émilion. There is a TER station 10 minutes away, with daily services to Bordeaux. Paris is just 2 hours away thanks to the TGV line. The nearest access to the A62 motorway linking Bordeaux and Toulouse is around 30 kilometres away by road to the south. 
The A89 motorway, which links Bordeaux and Lyon, is also around 30 km to the north-west. 
 Although a little far from major towns, the commune has easy access to larger cities thanks to well-maintained departmental roads and the proximity of the motorway for cities further away. This makes it an ideal location for anyone seeking peace and quiet yet close to major cities and renowned wine-growing areas.

Description

In the middle of the rolling countryside typical of the Gironde wine-growing region, a long avenue of lime and lilac trees leads up to the chateau. A vast gravelled courtyard with a circular lawn adorned with a statue of a woman stands in front of the south-facing facade of the chateau. Set at right angles on the left, there is a large building, which was part of the former wine storehouse, which has been converted into a reception room with a terrace and lawn in front of it. The current occupants have created a parking space there big enough for several cars. A circular tower with a pepperpot roof stands between the chateau and the reception room. On the right, sheltered by a laurel hedge, there is a gite that can accommodate up to 20 people and a small house for two overlooking the vineyards as far as the eye can see. All the facades are Bordeaux stone, with Virginia creepers, wisteria and rose bushes. The chateau has a clay tile roof, while the tower has a plain tile roof. There are 11 windows, a French window and the entrance door, all with wooden shutters. There are two swimming pools - one behind the chateau and the other next to the gite - and 1.5 hectares of vines.

The chateau and its tower

Built over two floors, the chateau covers a total surface area of almost 370 m². The tower has also been converted and is now habitable.


The ground floor
The front door opens onto a long corridor running south/north and leading to the various living areas. The floors are covered in Gironde tiles and the walls are built out of Bordeaux stone. In the east wing, to the left of the hallway, there is a kitchen with a view of the pool and the vines, and a utility room. From the entrance hall, still in the east wing, there is the television room with a functional grey marble fireplace and following on in a line, a bright dining room. The floor is covered in Bordeaux tiles and the room faces south.
 In the west wing, there is a lounge with a pink marble fireplace and a herringbone parquet floor and two large south-facing windows. Next to this there is an office with another south-facing window. A north-east-facing conservatory with a stone fireplace can be accessed by a small door with a step from the study. The floor is completed by a utility room and toilet at the end of the corridor on the right.
The upstairs
At the end of the entrance hall, a stone staircase leads upstairs. Here, a large landing leads to two north-facing bedrooms. The first, opposite the staircase, is a vast master bedroom with a pink marble fireplace, en suite bathroom and toilet. It has a remarkable view over the vineyards. The second bedroom is smaller but practical, with its own shower room, toilet and cupboard. A large, very wide east-west orientated corridor, which is lit by two windows at either end, leads to five other bedrooms. Three are south-facing and each has a shower room and toilet. The middle one has a bath next to the bed. The other two bedrooms, with south-east and north-east facing windows, each have a bathroom and toilet. The floors in all rooms are coir matting. A large wardrobe finishes off the floor.
The tower
With two former bread ovens, the ground floor has been converted into a reception/bar. A staircase leads upstairs to a toilet and shower room. In the summer, the site can be used as original extra bedrooms.

The gite

Hidden from view, a paved path from the courtyard leads to the Bordeaux stone gite and its small house. Formerly a home, the current residents have extended and refurbished it, adding a second swimming pool between 2014 and 2024. The facade was restored in 2021. On the ground floor, facing south, there is a separate bedroom with en suite shower room and toilet
. The subtle scent of wisteria wafts gently through. The rest of the gite is accessed via the eastern facade. From here, there is a terrace with beautiful views over the vineyards.



The ground floor
In the centre of the building, there is a wooden staircase in a large entrance hall leading up to the first floor. On this floor, the space is divided between an open-plan kitchen with wood-coloured parquet flooring that leads to a living room with white parquet flooring and a marble fireplace, two bedrooms, two shower rooms and a toilet. The living room has stone walls and exposed beams.
The upstairs
There is a mezzanine, two bedrooms, a dormitory area that can sleep several people, two shower rooms and a separate toilet.

The small house

Measuring 45 m², this was formerly a tractor shed. It was converted and renovated in 2016 to accommodate distinguished guests. Newlyweds often stop off here. There is a bedroom, a bathroom with a large open-plan bath and shower, a separate toilet and a small kitchen. The floor is travertine and French windows open onto a modest terrace facing east. Two hexagonal windows and a small 
window on the kitchen side maintain privacy.

The reception room

Having discovered the potential of the site, the current owners transformed this part of the estate's former wine storehouse into an impressive reception room measuring almost 250 m². The walls are made of famous Bordeaux stone. The room can accommodate 220 people for dinner and 350
 for cocktails. In addition to this vast space, there is a service room measuring around 70 m² dedicated to preparing banquets. There is also a storage room for the furniture.

The wine cellar

Continuing from the chateau's reception room and utility room, this is the part of the wine cellar used by the owners to vinify their wine, which is half Merlot and half Cabernet, and make their remarkable Bordeaux. There is a shed for storing equipment out of season, and the old vats are still there.

The grounds

A long avenue of lilac and lime trees leads to a round lawn surrounded by gravel at the entrance to the chateau. On the left, the lawn slopes down towards the area the owners have converted into a parking area. New lighting along the pathways provides a warm glow for the crape myrtle in bloom throughout the summer. At the back of the chateau, in the shade of a 200-year-old cedar, the first swimming pool overlooks the estate's vines. It has stone surrounds and measures 13 m long by 6 m wide. A second swimming pool is close to the gite. Fenced and locked, it is oval and measures 8 m by 4 m.

Our opinion

A Bordeaux wine estate and its chateau surrounded by extensive vineyards, typical of the region, which add a delicate rolling country feel and contribute to the overall aesthetic of the chateau, revealing a picturesque view rather like Tuscany in Aquitaine. The avenue and the 200-year-old cedar, all give estate the feel of a location steeped in history. Whether used as a chateau to welcome friends and family or a chateau for sumptuous receptions, or a gite to rent out, there is something for everyone in this idyllic setting.
