Description
The House
The house is typical of the Landes region. Its cob façade – a combination of clay, straw and water applied onto a wooden structure – provides excellent thermal insulation as well as a rustic aesthetic.
The timber framing, visible on the façade, creates a diamond or saltire pattern, characteristic of half-timbered architecture.
The ground floor
The entrance opens onto the kitchen, which is fully equipped. To the left, an oak door leads to a large living room, laid out in an inverted L shape and a television area. All of the floors are tiled. A bedroom, equipped with large cupboards and hardwood floors, faces east. Adjacent to the kitchen, a few steps lead to a bathroom with a bathtub and shower, a separate lavatory as well as a door leading to the covered patio, which provides access to the outbuilding.
The upstairs
A wooden staircase with narrow steps leads upstairs. This floor is composed of a large mezzanine, currently being used as a bedroom and an office, as well as two bedrooms built into the attic space. This level is bathed in light from its many windows and has hardwood floors.
The Outbuilding
The former barn was converted into a pleasant space, just waiting to be transformed according to its future owners’ wishes. A covered patio connects it to the house.
The ground floor
This is composed of a large garage with a concrete floor and exposed stone walls. Its massive old wooden double door is located on the poolside of the house. A bedroom was created on this floor, with a tremendous floor-to-ceiling height.
The upstairs
A wooden staircase provides access to this floor, which is made up of a large area built into the attic space with exposed beams and low windows, as well as a vast bedroom.
The Bedroom-Artist Studio
Once a traditional bread oven, the space was converted into an artist studio and a bedroom. The artist studio, with approximately 13 m² and entirely surrounded by glass walls is bathed in light. The separate bedroom, with approximately 11 m², has a mezzanine and its own en-suite shower room. A composting lavatory is located outside. The building is completely separate from the main house.
The Property
The garden extends over approximately 1.7 hectares and includes five centenary oak trees, acacias, an elder, lime and plum trees. Two streams run along the length of the property at the bottom of the hill. At night, does sometimes come to drink at their banks. The current owners use their own wood for their fireplace.
Our opinion
A typical Landes house, located in a verdant and calm oasis, immediately appears as if it had escaped the passage of time. The pleasure of hosting family and friends here, or renting out this bucolic space, makes it possible to imagine numerous options. Its proximity to all commodities is also an additional asset. Long winter evenings in front of the fire, as well as warm summer nights around the swimming pool, are blissful possibilities in this privileged location.
