A house with character and panoramic sea views
on the Pink Granite Coast in Brittany
Trédrez-Locquémeau, COTES-D'ARMOR brittany 22300 FR

Location

The property is situated between Lannion and Plestin-Les-Grèves, not far from the Léguer estuary, with the Pointe du Dourven marking its entrance to the south. This rocky spur of almost 43 hectares, with its coastal moorland, cliffs and granite formations, is one of the most iconic landscapes in the region. Small fishing ports, hiking trails along the GR34, fine sandy family beaches and local markets are only some of the many attractions. Day-to-day shops and services are just a few minutes away. The nearest train station is Lannion, 15 minutes away, putting Paris within less than 3 hours 30 minutes’ reach.

Description

A black wrought iron gate marks the entrance to the property. The small lane leading to the house runs parallel to the local road which continues its descent towards the port. Abundant vegetation provides an ideal protective shield, keeping the residence hidden from prying eyes. A driveway bordered by blocks of flat granite leads from the gate to the house. The house sits on a hill overlooking the bay. The stunning view is unobstructed. The house is surrounded by a large ornamental garden planted with trees and flowers. Several residences are nestled on the neighbouring heights. The watersports centre is just a stone's throw away and will delight sailing enthusiasts with its catamarans, dinghies, kayaks and paddles.

The house with character

Built on a granite outcrop, the house is exclusively of reclaimed dressed stone. Rectangular in plan and slightly curved in the centre, it has a Sizun slate gable roof, with an extension to the front facade that resembles a square staircase tower. There are a few small openings fitted with protective grilles. Several hipped dormers, known as "capucines", add some relief. A crenellated cornice and a round-arched entrance door embellish the east-facing facade. In addition to the access through the garage, there are five other entrances, one of which leads via an outside stone staircase at the gable end directly to the first floor. To the west is a terrace with sea views.

The ground floor
The arched wooden doorway, lit by a half-moon transom, opens onto a hallway with a ceiling height of almost five metres. The ochre and light yellow walls contrast with the glossy brown colour of the large rectangular sandstone tiles. One of the walls is decorated with a mural showing the cartography of the nearby coastline, illustrated here and there by historic buildings and floral compositions. On one side, a vast living room with an impressive granite fireplace is flooded with light thanks to two large picture windows overlooking the sea. The other windows are small-paned. The wooden ceiling beams match the floral decorations painted by the same There are two round-arched doors. One provides access to the outside terrace, the other to the kitchen. The kitchen is fitted, equipped and practical and opens onto the terrace. On the same level, a corridor leads to a bedroom, a closet, a bathroom and a lavatory with a washbasin. Finally, there is a laundry room with access to the garden.
The first floor
A solid wood staircase starting from the hallway provides access to a landing and a passageway serving on one side a large gabled bedroom with a ceiling height of around 3 metres. The beams are exposed and the flooring is of hardwood. The hip dormer windows let the light pour in. The variety of sea views is a delight. On the other side of the landing, a corridor leads to four bedrooms, a bathroom and lavatories. At the end of the corridor, a door provides access to the garden via an outside stone staircase.
The basement
A door from the laundry room provides access to a basement. There are a cellar and a double garage. This is where the boiler and its oil tank are located, as well as the water and electricity meters.

The ornamental garden

The garden features an abundance of flowers, including mimosa, hydrangea, agapanthus, camellia and daffodils. Hedgerows of varying heights line the property boundaries. In some places, the wooded and lawned grounds are slightly sloping, but there is a flat area. The entire plot is zoned for building. Last but not least, the sea view is exceptional.

Our opinion

A small corner of the world, calm and wooded, entirely turned towards the sea stretching out to the horizon. On its granite outcrop, surrounded by displays of colourful hydrangea and agapanthus, the house is well-built with traditional, local materials. The interior spaces are vast and bright, with breathtaking views of the shoreline all day long. A call from the open sea, its shape changing daily with the tides.
