Description
The townhouse
The ground floor
Beneath the entrance porch, a double-leaf, glazed, wooden door opens into an entrance hall with terrazzo flooring, from where a wooden staircase climbs to the upper floors. Opposite, behind a door, another staircase descends to the cellars. On either side, the entrance hall leads to a lounge and a dining room, which in turn leads to the kitchen. In these rooms, there is herringbone wood flooring throughout with sculpted wooden fireplaces against the walls. In the lounge, wood panelling adorns the walls and the ceiling is decorated with mouldings as well as a painted central décor. In the dining room, the wainscotting echoes the coffered ceiling.
The first floor
On this level, a landing leads to all the rooms. Opposite the staircase, a corridor leads to a wardrobe. On one side, there are two doors. One opens into a lavatory with a washbasin, while the other leads to a bedroom with an en suite bathroom and lavatory. Two bedrooms with marble fireplaces can be found on the other side of the corridor. There is wood stripped flooring throughout, painted walls and moulded ceilings.
The second floor
A landing, into which light generously streams through a glass roof, leads to all the rooms. Opposite the staircase, behind a door, a second staircase climbs to the attic level. To one side, there is a bedroom, followed by a shower room, a lavatory and a kitchen area. On the other side, two doors open into two bedrooms. The walls are painted and there is wood stripped flooring throughout.
The attic
A landing leads to an open space which is generously bathed in light through skylights. This attic space has been transformed into a spare bedroom with an office and music area. There is wood stripped flooring throughout, plus painted walls and exposed beams.
The annexes
These single-level constructions were built in the 1950s, with one raised section above the others, as well as facades that are rendered or with wooden facing. The roofs combine zinc and slate. They can be reached from the outside via the entrance porch or from the inside of the townhouse via the dining room. A door opens into a kitchen with a dining area. Next to it, a double-leaf door leads to a vast and bright space transformed into a dining room, a lounge and a bedroom with an en suite bathroom as well as lavatory. The space faces onto a patio and a small garden. There is wood stripped flooring throughout, as well as painted walls and exposed beams. From the courtyard, a staircase climbs to a separate studio with a roof terrace.
Our opinion
This elegant townhouse with a delicately sculpted facade is located in a central district and residential street of Tours. The edifice is an invitation to push open its tall carriage gate doors and discover the opulently decorated interior as well as the annexes, surrounding a foliage-rich courtyard and small garden. The house boasts remarkable 19th-century decorative features combined with more modern furnishings and fixtures. This residence promises an easy-going lifestyle as well as functionality and could be ideal for a family or a self-employed professional. The address is ideally located, near to the shops and the railway station, from which Paris can be reached in one hour.
