A 1920s sea-facing villa with 220m² of floor area and a swimming pool,
nestled in the coastal town of Concarneau in Brittany
Concarneau, FINISTERE brittany 29900 FR

Location

Located on the east side of a small bay – Baie de La Forêt – on the south coast of Brittany, the port town of Concarneau is emblematic of Brittany’s Finistère department. It draws many visitors with its 15th-century fortified town and 11 beaches that dot the coast around it. The villa lies in a highly sought-after neighbourhood, less than 50 metres from Cornouaille beach, a family beach of fine sand. It stands on a discreet, tree-lined residential road that links the town centre to the seaside districts. You can reach shops, the port and the walled town on foot in less than 10 minutes. From a train station in the nearby city of Quimper, 20 kilometres away, you can get to Paris in 3 hours and 30 minutes by rail.

Description

The house was built in the early 20th century as part of a tradition of seaside villas. The architecture combines regional and interwar influences. Flanked with its twin house from its beginnings, the house has been extended and renovated in a contemporary style. It has a garden-level floor, a first floor, a second floor and a third floor in the roof space. There is a main section and a secondary section on the side that is set back slightly. The facade faces west and looks out at the sea. This facade is a gable end, triangular at the top and stretching slenderly up. A small window set in a red-brick arch – a neo-Breton style – marks the top. The main gabled slate roof has eaves. On the first floor, there is a balcony with a wooden cross-motif balustrade. It brings out the symmetrical design of the facade and rests upon a protruding bay window that brings natural light into the living room. The entrance door is set in a semicircular arch of red brick and exposed stonework. The combination of material forms a subtle polychrome of pale rendering, brickwork and rubble stone. Facing the bay, a low wall of rubble stone crowned with fencing forms the street-side enclosure. A gate stands in this wall and fence. From another street, which runs alongside the property, a vehicle gate leads to the back of the plot.

Our opinion

This elegant Breton coastal villa is a splendid gem set in a highly sought-after neighbourhood. Indeed, the delightful dwelling stands just 50 metres from a pleasant beach of fine sand. The house is emblematic of seaside villas of the early 20th century. Its slender facade hides a comfortable interior bathed in natural light. The whole home has been renovated remarkably in a modern spirit. The reception rooms are laid out smoothly and open up the prospect of a wide range of uses. This villa could be your second home or even your main home. With its spaciousness and installations it would suit family life very well. And it is ready for you to settle into it without any renovation work needed. Not only is this charming property the perfect haven for seaside holidays, but it also has an outdoor swimming pool that enjoys absolute privacy.
