Our opinion
Piero della Francesca was born in Sansepolcro, a few dozen kilometres from here. In the background of his paintings, he depicted rolling hills, solitary trees and a light of almost unreal brightness. From the windows of this stone farmhouse, the landscape seems to have stepped straight out of his canvases. In the foreground, olive trees; further afield, the woods; on the horizon, the hills that straddle the border between Tuscany and Umbria. Inside, the beams, stone and terracotta give the rooms the warmth of country houses, with the kitchen fireplace remaining the focal point. Outside, the bread oven and the well have stood the test of time. The neighbouring outbuilding, meanwhile, could well become a studio: it would be a shame not to paint such a view.
