Our opinion

The Castelo-de-São-Jorge (St George’s Castle) dominates the estuary of the river Tagus and the old section of the Portuguese capital from the top of Lisbon’s highest hill. Bearing witness to the very well-known episodes of the Portuguese Reconquista, the walls of the venerable castle still keep watch over an unchanging maze of narrow streets, their coloured facades decorated with “azulejos” (painted, tin-glazed ceramic tiles). This flat is on the third floor of an old building. Although fully renovated, it still has some old period features such as its parquet flooring and a stone fireplace. Whilst its bright, air-conditioned rooms are easy to move around, the highlight of any visit is its planted terrace, forming a superb observatory as night falls, when the last rays of the sun light up the city’s rooftops. This property also comes with its own car parking space, a very useful asset so near to the town centre.
