Description
Opposite the residence, overlooking the paved courtyard, a restored outbuilding houses two very large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and lavatories, with the possibility of converting a further 90 m².
To the east of the residence, a small building serves as a summer kitchen and a utility room. It opens onto a slate-paved courtyard which, in the summer, becomes an outdoor dining area beneath a pergola.
To the south, there is a swimming pool with natural stone decking that is sheltered from the wind by small, old stone walls.
In the shelter of the tall trees, the Quick pitch covering of the tennis court has recently been renovated.
Above the main residence and converted outbuilding, a former barn is used as a woodstore and garage.
Several cars can be parked on a secluded landscaped area.
The 6 hectares of grounds have been harmoniously created. There is a wide variety of trees, some of which are planted in rows, as well as an orchard. Large meadows surround the rest of the property.
The manor
The ground floor
All the rooms in the manor are paved with terracotta tiles beneath ceilings with exposed beams. From the courtyard, the entrance leads, via several steps, to a dining room, a fitted kitchen and the tower, in which a wooden staircase leads to a large lounge. There are two authentic fireplaces in excellent condition made of stone and brick, one of which includes an alcove framed by pilasters. The walls and some of the exposed beams are painted in different shades of ochre. An old stone sink stands beneath one of the windows.
The garden-level floor
From the tower, a stone staircase leads to a vast room that could be used as a lounge, office, games room or bedroom. Next to the lounge, there is a large walk-in wardrobe and a shower room. A patio door opens directly into the flowery garden.
The first floor
Landings lead successively to two bedrooms, each of which boast characterful stone fireplaces, as well as an en suite bathroom with a lavatory.
The second floor
On this level, there are two further bedrooms with exposed roof frames, one of which has sloping ceilings up to the ridge cap. Both of them have an en suite bathroom and lavatory.
The outbuildings
The restored former outbuilding frames the courtyard opposite the manor and three dormers punctuate its gabled slate roof. The ground floor, which previously served as stables, is occupied by a storeroom and a series of other rooms that could be converted. To the rear, on the garden side, an entrance leads via a several steps to a landing, leading in turn to two bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom and lavatory. Both rooms boast wood stripped flooring, sloping ceilings up to the ridge cap and exposed beams and roof framing.
Nearby, a former barn with a gabled roof made of flat tiles houses a woodstore and a garage. Lastly, a summer kitchen boasting a bread oven opens onto the patio located at the manor’s eastern gable end.
The grounds
The drive divides the estate into two parts. To the north, large meadows for horses to graze are bordered by hedges and trees, including a row of hundred-year-old oaks. A small wood and a duck pond can be found near the former barn.
Lower down, to the south, a large, lawned area is dotted with coppices and a variety of different tree types (such as Oak, copper beech, Liquidambar, weeping willow, blue Atlas cedar, Ginko biloba, tulip tree and spruce, among others), after which an orchard and a meadow can be found.
The 12-metre by 6-metre heated swimming pool faces south, between the manor and flower garden. The tennis court, which is sheltered from view, is floodlit. Several terraces and small flights of stone steps, all located around the manor house, connect these different parts of the property.
Our opinion
This authentic manor stands on the hillside, standing out from the wooded countryside of the Mayenne area. The residence is both rustic and elegant. It is surrounded by a flowery garden and terraces with unbeatable views of the surrounding countryside as well as the church in the small village on the horizon. The estate boasts an ideal location, tucked away from prying eyes but near to a station where high-speed TGV trains put the French capital within 2 hours and 30 minutes’ reach, which is a further advantage for use as a holiday home or main residence.
