Description
The residence
The ground floor
To the east, the main entrance opens directly into a large lounge/dining room. On one side, the room leads to a utility room/boiler room, as well as to a storeroom and a wine cellar. On the other side, there is another lounge, from where a wooden staircase leads to the upper floors. A small hallway leads to a lavatory as well as to a traditional kitchen. The rooms still boast several original features, including terracotta floor tiles, French style beamed ceilings, a fireplace, a period staircase, wooden interior shutters and wooden doors, with moulded panels, that are either solid wood or semi-glazed. There are many windows, allowing light to flood in, and bright colours are used throughout.
The first floor
This level can be reached by a 19th-century wooden staircase and is set around a landing and corridor leading to five bedrooms. The fourth bedroom is carpeted and is adjacent to a shower room with a lavatory. The fifth bedroom is next to a bathroom with a lavatory, wardrobe space and a linen room. The level also boasts several original features, including terracotta floor tiles, oakwood parquet flooring and marble fireplaces.
The attic
This level has not yet been converted and extends over both sections of the house. It can be reached via the main staircase, is currently used as a loft and the flooring is made up of terracotta tiles.
The hangar
This building was created using the structure of the former communal washhouse, with a slate roof supported by wooden pillars. With a surface of approximately 70-m², it has capacity for three vehicles and storage space for tools.
The garden
It spreads out mainly to the north and includes ornamental trees, particularly hornbeam, palm, mimosas and bamboo, among others, as well as fruit trees, lining a large rectangular lawn. At its northern tip, there is also a vegetable garden. It can be watered thanks to the presence of a well fitted with an electric pump.
Our opinion
In the old fabric of the Upper Anjou sector in the Mayenne area, this former presbytery stands close to the the village church with which it was historically affiliated. The edifice, which was built during the Ancien Régime and then expanded in the 19th century, retains the simple style typical of presbyteries in western Fance, borne out by its lime rendering, tuffeau stone window surrounds and slate roof. The L-shaped layout creates a sheltered courtyard, while there is an onrnamental garden to the north. The property has been well maintained as the decades have passed and now boasts sound basis for accommodating new uses without compromising the traditions of its heritage.
