Location
High on the Yssandonnais plateau, in the Corrèze département of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the property stands in a village where everyday shops and services remain within walking or cycling distance. Objat lies minutes away; Brive-la-Gaillarde — its railway station, airport and onward links to the A20 and A89 motorways — under twenty. Rolling countryside frames the setting without cutting it off from a lively regional hub. Several of the "plus beaux villages de France" sit within easy reach, among them Ségur-le-Château, Saint-Robert, Turenne and Collonges-la-Rouge, each rewarding a day's wandering.
Description
The house
The garden-level floor
Entered from a vestibule, the house is organised around a drawing room that leads to a kitchen with dining area and a large bedroom occupying the former dwelling. Under an exposed roof structure rising to over 5 m, this room includes a wardrobe, a shower room and a mezzanine study. The fireplace, the original proportions and the staircase remain as evidence of the historic layout of this rural house.
The upstairs
A timber staircase leads to a landing and corridor serving three bedrooms and a bathroom. The floors are laid with parquet and the windows overlook the grounds.
The base level
A former cowshed now houses a workshop while retaining its manger and its polished timber livestock fittings.
The barn
Under a ridge height of over 9 m, a 55 m² upper platform sits above a ground-level footprint exceeding 100 m². Access is through the gable end and the side elevation via large timber double doors.
The pool and its pavilion
The pool is geometric in shape, partly framed by a timber deck that serves as a sundeck. With ceilings of nearly 4 m, an exposed roof framework, a sitting area, a kitchen and a two-person sauna, the open-sided pavilion makes an unusual setting for relaxation.
Our opinion
A former winegrower's house set in the landscapes of the historic province of Limousin. Restored without any major alteration to its structure or historic fabric, the house retains the character of the rural buildings of the Yssandonnais hillsides. The restoration prioritised the preservation of the materials and proportions inherited from the original house, while meeting the demands of contemporary life. Its scale, together with a garden, a pool and a substantial outbuilding, makes it well suited to family life and to the running of an artisan business. From the house, the view takes in woodland, pasture and shallow valleys that that remain largely unspoilt.
