Our opinion
Frome is not a town you simply pass through. Its cobbled streets, Georgian façades and the creative spirit that has thrived here for two centuries make it a destination in its own right, equidistant from Bath and Bruton, and just fifty minutes from London by train. It was here, in 1818, that John Pincher, to whom we owe several buildings in the Bath area, built Fountain House for a vicar. The Tuscan portico, the stained-glass window in the hall, the mahogany staircase and the proportions of the reception rooms still reflect the clarity of the Regency period, which the restoration has preserved without making it feel static. Six bedrooms spread over three floors, a kitchen with a vaulted ceiling, a music room, a sitting room with a fireplace, and a study with built-in bookcases: each space has its own character. Behind the house, some 2,000 m² of enclosed gardens, a heated swimming pool and a paved terrace extend life outdoors. A vicarage that has lost none of its prestige.
