An early 20th century flat and its terrace
in a mansion house on the edge of Lyon’s Tête-d'Or Park
Lyon, RHONE rhones-alps 69006 FR

Location

On the edge of the highly sought-after district of Tête-d'Or Park, this flat spanning approx. 155 m² is in one of the emblematic mansion houses in Lyon’s 6th arrondissement. This impressive building with its Mansard-style roof and its elegant facades, beautifully decorated with angels, faces and flowery friezes, stands near to some excellent schools, numerous shops, main roads as well as Part-Dieu train station.

Description

The mansion house, set in the centre of its garden enclosed by railings, stands out even more when seen from the sky. It was constructed a little more than a century ago by two renowned architects for a local chemist famous for his hair lotion. The house features the main architectural codes of the last century, that of a mansion in the layout of the main building, the flats used for domestic accommodation, its caretaker’s lodge and its stables, now used as garages.

The flat

The house stands in the centre of its grounds, enclosed by railings. This flat can be reached either via its private stairway, flanked by four marble columns, or via the monumental stairway in the mansion house. Laid out on the raised mezzanine, these accesses give the impression of an independent dwelling within the property. The ceilings are high and the walls covered with panelling which enhances the fireplace. The parquet flooring is laid in a variety of crossed, strip or chevron patterns. The large lounge provides direct access to a south-facing, covered terrace, spanning almost 16 m² and paved with mosaic tiles. Three bedrooms, two shower room and a kitchen, still exuding its old-fashioned air. A wide corridor also gives access to a reception lounge, featuring a dining area.

A car parking space is available in a double garage.
Caretaker’s accommodation
One fifth of the co-owned caretaker’s lodge belongs to the flat.
Garage
A small storage area or bicycle shed, spanning a surface area of 4 m², adjoins the caretaker’s lodge.
Cellar
A cellar, spanning a little over 8 m², belongs to the flat.
Cottage
A flat for domestic staff, on the top floor, awaits conversion. Spanning approx. 28 m², it is currently used as attic space.

Our opinion

All desires to live in a verdant setting whilst being in the town are satisfied here. A private entrance into Tête-d'Or Park as somewhere to take a walk is a rare luxury. This flat is but waiting for a new family to take over from the one who has appreciated it as a pleasant place to live for more than 50 years. Although this old flat is in need of some improvement works, its natural elegance still fills it with dazzling charm.
