Location
The Parisian cul-de-sac Impasse Guéménée owes its name to the Hôtel de Rohan-Guémené, a princely townhouse built in 1605 on the square Place des Vosges with outbuildings that adjoined this old, calm, secret street. The dwelling stands where the Filles de la Croix convent once did. This convent was founded in 1643. Its Dominican nuns would school girls in the 17th and 18th centuries. The sculpted pediment that crowns the gate bears witness to the building’s original purpose in education: in high relief, the sculpture displays an effigy of a scholar to the left of a globe and an effigy of an antique philosopher to the right of this globe. The property is nestled in the heart of the Marais district of Paris. In the early 17th century, this location placed it in the hub of French aristocratic life. And it is a short stroll from the trendy, vibrant Bastille district.
Description
Our opinion
This luxury dwelling is a rare gem. It is a cosy haven tucked away in the beating heart of Paris. Here, the calm of a country home reigns in the middle of a vibrant city. This splendid property combines modern installations with the historical charm of decor inspired by the 17th century. Yet these contrasts are harmonious. And you can relish the soothing tranquillity of this secret sanctuary, hidden behind its tall wall, as much as the exciting bustle of the nearby Bastille and Faubourg Saint-Antoine districts. In this unique property, you can admire characterful features of the past – wooden panelling, Versailles parquet and fireplaces – while you enjoy contemporary installations – air conditioning, alarms, soundproofing and insulation – that make your life safe, comfortable and pleasant here.
