Our opinion
In the Tuscan farmhouses of yesteryear, the external staircase separated two worlds: below, the livestock, tools and storerooms; above, family life. The house has retained its own, and this simple stone staircase tells the story of the place all by itself. Roles have since been reversed. The ground floor, once devoted to work, has become the setting for large gatherings around a kitchen designed to feed a full house. Upstairs, where the family used to sleep, the bedrooms have retained their chestnut beams and hand-crafted terracotta floors. Set apart from the main house, an outbuilding and a loft, each with its own fireplace, offer guests their own cosy retreat. Outside, lavender, rosemary and immortelle mingle with five hundred organically grown olive trees, spread over some 6 ha, with a further 17 ha of neighbouring land available for expansion, set against the backdrop of the Grosseto hills.
