Our opinion
This is where the first men of Italy lived, in caves like that found on the property, dating from the Iron Age. A sign that the pleasant way of life existing in the Apulia region is over a thousand years old. Just a stone’s throw from Ugento, the property, spanning a hectare, faces the Gulf of Taranto and the Ionian Sea; its dominant position, making it an excellent stronghold site as of the 17th century. This masseria farmhouse was then a stately home and a fortified store for the precious harvests from the olive and fig trees, that are still growing in the garden. This is now a wonderful old stone residence, spanning 550 m² of living space and awaiting renovation. There are still some vast vaulted rooms that could easily be converted for use. Also on the estate is an astonishing traditional “trullo”, a small, round, dry-stone construction, the image of which has become a symbol of the Apulia region. In short, a place filled with history and heritage, ideal for a holiday villa or a luxury hotel, just a stone’s throw from the “Maldives”, a nickname given to the long, white sandy beaches on the Salento peninsula.
