Our opinion

This property is the jewel in the crown of Azambuja, a town in Portugal’s Lisbon region. When it was built, it was considered “one of the 20 most important manors of the kingdom”. The 19th-century palace was rebuilt in 1869 upon the ruins of a 14th-century stronghold. The edifice has a special bond with France as the Napoleonic marshal André Masséna set up his headquarters in the palace for the French Empire’s third and last military campaign in Portugal in 1810. With its white lime-rendered elevations, adorned with a climbing vine, the noble dwelling contains a remarkable interior with historical charm. The colourful decor inside is typical of the local region. The home offers a floor area of over 800m². Time seems to stand still in the authentic atmosphere here. And from the windows and outdoor spaces, you can admire views of narrow streets below, in a picturesque town ideally located near Lisbon.
