Our opinion

The area known as Grecia-Salentina, to the south of Lecce, comprises a group of little towns where residents still speak a dialect resembling Ancient Greek. This particularity can be explained by the close ties that united the local inhabitants to the great and ancient Greece, whose colonies extended all around the Mediterranean. Soleto, just a few kilometres from Galatina, is a maze of quiet, narrow streets around a delightful main square, exuding charm and mystery. Constructed in the 18th century on behalf of a large, aristocratic family, this palace spans more than 840 m² over a ground and a first floor. The visit from the 100 m² inner courtyard is like a journey back in time, through vast, adjoining rooms, with vaulted ceilings, painted with frescoes featuring colourful motifs. Although this bright, spacious building awaits full restoration works, it is abounding in potential. The exterior areas are also full of promise, just like the roof terrace, providing a view over the centre of the town, and the citrus garden, making it possible to experience southern relaxation under the orange blossom.
