areas on a street with many Historical Monument buildings, in the heart of Lille’s historic centre
Location
The flat is on the ground floor of the Hotel Van der Cruisse de Waziers, a former private mansion from the end of the 17th century. Located in Lille’s old town at 95/97 rue Royale, this street, an important route, includes several other private mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries, some of which are listed as Historical Monuments, like the Hotel de l’Intendance, the current headquarters of the archbishop alongside of which is Saint-Paul High School, located in the former convent of the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. With 234,000 inhabitants, Lille, the tenth most populous city in France and the administrative centre of the Nord department, has taken advantage of its strategic location in order to become one of the most dynamic and attractive cities in Europe. The capital of Flanders includes more than 50,000 companies, a regional hospital centre, the second oldest university in France, shopping centres, famous museums, including the Fine Arts Museum, and the childhood home of Charles de Gaulle. Lille residents have also benefitted from an exceptional cultural offer ever since Lille was elected the European Capital of Culture in 2004. In addition, they have access to vast green spaces, like the Bois de Boulogne, the Vauban gardens, the Botanical Gardens or the Henri Matisse Park. Lille’s public transportation network, with several dozen bus lines, two metro lines and two tramlines, is practical and efficient, while via high-speed rail, Brussels is only 35 minutes away, Paris is 55 minutes away, and London and Amsterdam can be reached in 1 hour 20 minutes and 3 hours, respectively.
Description
The Studio
Located on the ground floor of the private mansion, with a floor area of approximately 35 m², it includes a dual-aspect main living room/dining room with a view of the garden. An alcove provides a quiet sleeping area and includes a shower room at the end of the hallway.
Our opinion
This flat, set back from the street, is an oasis of peace and quiet in Lille’s historic centre, and yet remains only a stone’s throw away from the lively Grand Place as well as many shops and food businesses, restaurants and hip cafés. Perfect for either a student or a professional, the flat’s functional layout creates a living environment that is both pleasant and comfortable. In addition, the studio enjoys remarkable amenities, such as the well-maintained common areas, while the courtyard of Michel Van der Cruysse’s private mansion can be used as an outdoor space. Lastly, a personal parking place in the collective ownership property’s interior garden also contributes to the privileged, but accessible, lifestyle that this flat offers its future owner.
