A family property, with landscaped garden and swimming pool, in a village
on the edge of the forest between Montfort-l'Amaury and Houdan, in the Yvelines
Bazainville, YVELINES paris 78550 FR

Location

Just a stone's throw from the Quatre Piliers forest, the picturesque village of Bazainville surrounds the recently restored 11th century church of Saint-Nicolas. The adjoining Bazainville priory has been converted into a charming hotel. In addition to this outstanding historical heritage, Bazainville is close to the forests of Rambouillet and the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse.
The village primary school opened in 1983 and is located in the centre of the village. Other schools are only a few kilometres from Bazainville - such as the nursery school in Houdan and the private school Saint Louis Notre-Dame du Bel Air in Monfort l'Amaury, which offers bilingual English sections from primary to secondary school.

Description

Built at the end of the 19th century, the property with thick mortared stone walls is the last house at the end of a little-used road. The evenly spaced windows, most of which are rectangular and some of which are very wide, open onto the garden and provide the many rooms in the house with abundant light. All the old windows and doors have been replaced with new units of metal and burglar-proof glass. The windowsills are of Belgian red brick. The gable roofs of the various buildings that make up the house are clad with either interlocking or flat tiles.
The large house comprises several sections arranged in a U-shape around the garden, and has been completely restored by its last inhabitants, who have turned it into an elegant and comfortable home. The main materials used - wood, metal and cement - were combined with finishes in warm tones to make the house as welcoming as possible and to give it a more contemporary feel.
A path leads to the discreet entrance of the residence, which features a discreet metal doorway topped by two wall-mounted lamps. Through the main door of the house, a large glass opening reveals the full extent of the landscaped garden and the swimming pool. To the left of the entrance, a hallway leads to the reception areas: a large sitting room and a dining room, extended by a large kitchen. Upstairs, there is the master bedroom, its closet and bathroom. Off to the side are a scullery and a utility room.
To the right of the entrance hall, a corridor leads to the other bedrooms: two each with a mezzanine above, a bedroom currently reserved for friends, and a small sitting room. Finally, there is another bedroom with a bathroom on the upper floor.

The house

The ground floor
The spacious entrance features a bold colour scheme, with herringbone parquet flooring in burnt black Belgian oak and smoky green walls punctuated by gold mirrors. To one side, a metal-framed cupboard serves as a wardrobe with storage space.
The entrance hall leads into the sitting and dining room, where the choice of materials creates a warm atmosphere: straight, wide-strip strip-cut solid oak flooring, a fireplace with insert, and a white-painted, beamed ceiling.
The kitchen is the other centrepiece of the house. Lined with large picture windows, it has been specially designed to give the impression of being outdoors. This is an ideal spot for gatherings. The cement-tiled floor complements the black granite of the worktops and the semi-professional range cooker. A scullery and adjacent linen room add to the day-to-day comforts.
To the right of the entrance, a long corridor leads to another wing of the house containing more private areas: two bedrooms with mezzanine floors, a guest room overlooking the garden and the pool, a small snuggery or multimedia room, topped by another large bedroom with its own spacious bathroom.
The upstairs
A wood and metal staircase leads to the upper storey. The space currently used by the parents is located above the sitting room: a large bedroom of more than 31 m² in the roofspace, with a closet and bathroom equipped with a large washbasin, a traditional bathtub and an open shower. On the same level is another very spacious bedroom with built-in wardrobe, followed by a well-appointed bathroom with double washbasin, bath and shower. All bathrooms feature retro-style porcelain toilets and Mexican ceramic washbasins. In the bathroom currently reserved for guests, the basins are integrated into a travertine-covered top edged with Italian tiles. The other bathrooms are tiled in white travertine. The taps and showerheads are sourced from Italy.

The garden

Covering grounds of almost 1,000 m², enclosed by walls and green hedges, the garden was created with particular loving care to create an oasis of peace, greenery and flowers. Here and there, tiered beds of greenery and flowers emerge from the stretches of lawn that cover a large part of its surface. Featuring a palette of colours, cypresses, magnolias, peonies, camellias, azaleas, hydrangeas, Chinese palms, boxwood embroidery and perfectly manicured lawns, the garden flourishes all year round.
Paving stones border the facades of the house on the garden side, creating a walkway where tables and chairs can be placed as required. To the right of the kitchen, a terrace covered by a metal pergola has been specially designed to catch the light while creating a shaded area.
Finally, further on, a discreet passageway leads to a very old vaulted stone wine cellar, spanning around 6 m².

The swimming pool

Located in a central position in front of the house, surrounded by the garden and linked by a few brick steps to a small raised terrace, which adjoins the side elevation of the left wing at its end, the swimming pool is of a good size - around 11 m x 4 m. With its dark grey stone surrounds and borders, it blends in perfectly with the raised terrace, the solarium and the adjoining 15 m² gazebo below, next to the house. The gazebo was built like a greenhouse, with a metal structure, large glazed areas framed in red Belgian brick and a floor laid with Provence-patterned tiles.

Our opinion

This elegant residence, with its haughty allure set against the backdrop of its green surroundings, boasts a host of assets, including an intelligent layout of rooms - all opening onto the garden - a considerable floor area and a renovation using exclusively high-quality materials. Thanks to the warm ambience of its many rooms, it is very easy to feel at home inside, and the generous volumes contribute to making the house extremely comfortable. In this day and age, with home-office work the norm and many seeking to live in harmony with the times, it couldn't be easier to imagine owners living out both family and professional life in such an environment. The ensemble is harmonious, the decor authentic and of high quality, and the garden particularly well-kept and beautiful. Here, everything delights the eye: from whatever angle you look at the property, within the various spaces delineated by the skilful interior and exterior layout.
