The decor appears to come straight out of one of Sergio-Leone’s films. There is actually much to say about this vast estate which extends between Serra-de-São-Mamede and the Alentejo region’s pastoral countryside. History relates that its origins involve a powerful landowner, whose son became a renowned bullfighter. This property, later one of the most popular inns in the area, was above all the residence of a famous adventurer and imposter who, with his charisma and legendary self-assurance, succeeded in gathering personalities here from the world over. The scandalous Bo-Derek, who filmed the film Bolero not far away, was a regular visitor. Currently awaiting renovation, this property reflects the rustic appearance of an authentic “monte” or farmhouse, typical of the rural Alentejo region bordering Spain. The facade, with its arcades, is outstanding, just like the interior of the main house, featuring stone walls, impressive fireplaces, exposed beams and traditional floor tiles. Said house comprises six bedrooms and large, spacious living areas. Another detached house, standing nearby, remains unfinished, its potential is obvious. Surrounded by a vast estate, the property is planted with close to 200 centuries-old olive trees which are but waiting to be harvested in order to produce some of Portugal’s yellow gold. The olive oils from the Alentejo region are regularly classified amongst the best in the world.
